Touring America With OPI

Posted by Siofan | Wednesday March 30, 201114 comments

OPI's Fall 2011 collection is inspired by one of our favourite vacation options, the roadtrip. Called Touring America, the twelve shades range from light grays to deep purples, with some coral, taupe and fuchsia in between. There's also those cute OPI names, too, that cover common roadtrip ground like bumpersticker slogans, U.S. landmarks and the dreaded chant "Are we there yet?"

In a release about the collection, OPI executive VP and artistic director (the clever mind behind all those cute names) Suzi Weiss-Fischmann said, “My recent road trip across the country sparked the creation of the Touring America Collection...Autumn is a time for reinvention, and these shades revive classic, iconic colors for fall, from cool heather, khaki and chocolate to warm rose, peach and red.”

The shades hit salons August 3, just in time for those end of summer trips.

@Siofan - you've completely described my dilemma! It is so hard to tell from the bottle, even when you're looking at it in person. I recently picked up what I thought was a taupey mushroom colour but it came out quite dark purply on my nails. I guess what's throwing me off here a little is that on these pictures, it's really hard to tell the differences between some of these darker colours.

@siofan - I agree some people are really picky about shades and tints... I on the other hand love almost anything remotely gray!

@cathy - it's silly that I want the majority of the collection just because of the names

@Laurenblair: I checked out that link and those colours are cute; I really like the Texas-inspired names!

Now I want to try an orange nail polish for Spring!

It's hard to tell sometimes from the bottles what they'll look like after a few coats. Some of these do look a little similar, but nail colour is all about the tweaks. Like with grays, everyone is so picky about the shade they want, some like more of a greige , others like a bit of a mauve tinge and others like them more on the light dove gray side or dark and smokey. My thinking is the repeat of colours but in a few takes is just OPI's way of appealing to various preferences within a shade. What do you think?

Wow where did all that stuff come from?? Sorry about that, I didn't mean for all that extra stuff to be apart of that.

I really like some of the colors here, like the I eat mainly lobster and My address is <?xml:namespace prefix = st1 ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags" />Hollywood, but I have to agree with mamaluv. A lot of them just look the same as years past. I've been looking for a shade I can wear as an everyday color that will last, but I'm not big on the blacks and browns. I like more natural looking colors and pinks for everyday, but I always go for a red when I'm getting dressed up.

Okay, I sort of take that back. There are more browns and grays here that are a newish trend. I'm a little surprised at how cool the shades are for a spring/summer campaign. Would have expected warmer tones? At second glance, "A-Taupe The Space Needle" is definitely growing on me.
