Beauty Battle: Which Pore Vanishing Primer is the Best?

Posted by Alexandra C. | Thursday March 6, 201410 comments

Primer and I have a difficult relationship. In Facebook terms, you might classify it as 'It's Complicated'. It's not that we don't get along ever, sometimes I fall head over heels and other times, I'm not too sure what it adds to my life. Finding the right primer is like finding the right guy, it takes some experimenting, time and of course, you'll have to suffer through a few lemons.

That's where we come in. Because we care about our chicks, we want to help cut down the time spent on the duds.

This week, we're putting three pore-be-gone promising primers to the test to see which pass and which fail.

Wondering what new spring primer you should be investing in?

Rachel is testing out: L'Oreal Paris Youth Code Texture Perfector Pore Vanisher

I've never really understood the point of pore minimizers until I made [not-so] friends with those uber-magnifying mirrors that make you feel a little less human after looking in them. I wouldn't say I have the largest of pores, but there are definitely some regions that could use some smoothing over.

What I liked most is the silky feel to it when applied to skin; it leaves your skin feeling super soft and "mattifying." I only used it in the morning, though you can use it both in the morning and evening as the last step of your skin care routine.

After using L'Oreal Paris Youthcode Texture Perfector Pore Vanisher (say that 10 times fast) for a week, I noticed a remarkably scaled down difference in the size of my pores as the Perline-O tightens pore walls. By the second week, I noticed my skin looked much much smoother and less shiny due to the perlite in it which absorbs excess oil. In other words, it's totally selfie/photo friendly, gals!

The 'Too Long Didn't Read' (i.e. TLDR) Version:

Pore Vanishing Power: 4/5
Makeup Friendliness (did it make makeup slide off, did it help it glide on smoothly?): 5/5
Long Lasting Effect: 4/5
Worth your hard earned cash? 4/5

Alexandra is testing out: Maybelline Baby Skin Instant Pore Eraser

This product is being compared to Benefit's POREfessional primer which I happen to love, so this one has got some big shoes to fill. As far as pore filling goes, this primer did a decent job. After a thin coat, my skin was noticeably smoother and pores were filled for even skin. It's quite hydrating but a little greasy so I noticed rub off of my makeup and creasing in fine lines under my eyes. I think this primer does a good job of doing what it promises but personally, my main concern is usually having long lasting, matte skin so this wouldn't be my go-to primer of choice.

TLDR Version:

Pore Vanishing Power: 4/5
Makeup Friendliness: 3/5
Long Lasting Effect: 3/5
Worth your hard earned cash? 3/5

Christina is testing out: Garnier 5 sec Blur Skin Renew Instant Smoother

This product claims it takes five seconds to apply and results in younger and more perfect looking skin. Light technology reduces appearance pf wrinkles, imperfections, open pores and shine. Makes skin look incredibly smooth and matte.

Deciding to switch primers for the past two weeks was a big deal for me. I know, I make a big deal out of everything. I used the Garnier 5 Second Perfect Blur primer, which is more a skin smoother rather than a primer. My skin is extremely sensitive when it comes to change and thus the first week had me in a skin breakout, but that storm passed and I was cleared for a new primer change. I really liked how the product did what it said it was going to: it made my face feel extremely smooth and reduced the appearance of pores. My foundation went on perfectly on top and surprisingly helped me keep a fresh face during my longest day, so yay Garnier! My one big problem with primers is the heavy feeling that they put on your face, the Garnier Perfect Blur did not make me feel that way at all, it was super light! I would definitely recommend this product to all the Chicks who are looking to change up their makeup products. Although I would stray away if you have sensitive skin or wait it out to use like I did!

TLDR:

Pore Vanishing Power:4 /5
Makeup Friendliness: 4.5/5
Long Lasting Effect:4 /5
Worth your hard earned cash? 4/5

While the competition was fierce, it seems that Rachel's L'Oreal Paris Youth Code: Texture Perfector Pore Vanisher came out on top. Have you tried any of these primers? Which is your fave? Review 'em if you have and let us know!
