Morning Beauty Routine + Getting Ready Playlist

Posted by Alexandra C. | Tuesday October 1, 20139 comments

How do you get ready in the morning? Personally, I love my sleep and my beauty routine needs to do two things: get me looking as relatively presentable in as little time as possible and start my day off right so I feel pumped and energized.

This means that my beauty routine is streamlined to have as little steps as possible and that some upbeat danceable tunes are a must-have! A morning playlist is essential to get me in the best mood!

Here is my simple getting ready routine:

#1 Hop in the Shower

If you're like me, you need that burst of water and some excellent tunes in the morning to wake you up and get you started for the day. I like to have a delicious scented body wash to ease me into my morning and some catchy pop to get me in a good mood. For my dry, damaged hair, a moisturising shampoo and conditioner duo is a necessity. After exfoliating and shaving (only in summer or if I'm wearing sleeveless, let's be real), I'm ready to go and brush my teeth!

Here are a few of my personal shower essentials:

1. Gillette Venus & Olay Razor in Sugarberry (C$15.99)

2. Gud Orange Petalooza Natural Body Wash (C$7.00)

3. Lush Rub Rub Rub (C$21.95)

4. Schwarzkopf Professional BC Fibre Force Shampoo (C$15.95) + Schwarzkopf Professional BC Fibre Force Conditioner (C$16.95)

5. Forever Natural Bamboo & Jute Bath Mitt (C$5.69)

While sudsing up, listen to these tunes:

#2 Prep and Prime

After I'm all squeaky clean I do my quickie hair and skincare routine and blast some jams to keep my energy up. A good sing along song is key to this stage in my process.  When it comes to my wet hair, I like quick 'n' easy and I don't usually have time to style, so I use some of these simple styles for wet hair and add some product to control and tame my mane. My skincare focuses on hydrating my skin and making sure it's balanced (not too dry or oily).

Here are some of my current skincare and haircare crushes:

1. Clean & Clear Morning Burst Hydrating Gel Moisturizer (US$6.29)

2. Avene Gentle Toner (US$20.00)

3. John Frieda Frizz-Ease Secret Weapon Flawless Finishing Creme (C$11.99)

4. Clarins Lotus Face Treatment Oil (C$51.00)

5. Aveda be curly Curl Controller (C$21.00)

6. Lush Grease Lightning (C$13.95)

7. Neostrata Clarifying Lotion (C$29.00)

And some excellent jam sesh numbers:

#3 Primpin' Ain't Easy

I love doing my makeup to dancy pop numbers that getting me pumped! My current (guilty, not so guilty) pleasure is Britney Spears ANYTHING. Lately, I've been trying out more lightweight foundations and concealers. I find they give me a more natural finish and I've also gone back to some cult classic products!

Here are a few products you'll currently find in my makeup bag:

1. Benefit Cosmetics They're Real! Mascara (C$29.00)

2. Clarins Instant Concealer (C$32.00)

3. Maybelline Fit Me Shine-Free Foundation Stick (C$10.49)

And these are sure to get you moving:

#4 Playing Dress Up

I like to match my music to what I'm doing. So obviously when it comes to getting dressed for the day, I like to choose songs that I imagine would be perfect for the runway. Since fall has just hit, I've been slowly (but surely) working on building my wardrobe with layering pieces and versatile essentials, here are a few of my favourites:

1. Jacob Plaid Narrow Ankle Pants (C$89.90)

2. Boohoo Imogen Large Floral Statement Necklace (C$25.00)

3. Forever 21 Ponte Knit Jacket (C$39.80)

While I'm paying dress up, here's what I listen to:

What's your morning routine like? What do you listen to to get ready?

Alexsandra, thank you so much for introducing me to Jessie Ware! I just spent the last hour researching her music!

I will be listening to "sweet talk" every morning from now on...

Depends on the day, but I bathe the night before, so I am fresh, and hair cleaned. After washing my face and moisturizing, I put my hair in a messy bun, or ponytail, which gives my moisturizer time to absorb, Then a BB cream, mascara, liner, shadow, bronzer (E and W shape), and finish with a nude caramel bronze lip colour. I am out of the washroom in under 15 minutes, and may or may not listen to music...taking it off is way quicker. By the way, totally love they're real mascara too!!

My routine is: Wake up, eat, shower, wash my face, then I get half dressed(undergarments, pants and a tank), then comes my makeup which goes - primer, concealer, bb cream(or foundation depending on the coverage I want that day), powder, mascara, eyeliner, fix mistakes, finally I apply lip product and then complete my look with a shirt, maybe a sweater and whatever accessories I need. I usually do this while watching my subscriptions on youtube, but if no new ones are out I will listen to Country Hits 2013 on repeat.

I love Frizz Ease! It is a wonderful product as long as you don't use too much. I also think Katy Perry's Roar is a wonderful inspiring song.
