Spring 2012 Fashion Week Beauty Trends with Valentino and Donna Karan

Are you a dark and sultry or light and sweet kind of chick? Those were the beauty trends presented to us during the Spring 2012 fashion shows at Valentino and Donna Karan.

At Donna Karan, we saw a deep, intense lip that also had an ombre effect. The lips were almost stained looking and popped out against a minimal face. Brows were also strong, and bigger, framing the model's eyes. As for eye makeup, aside from a base, there was almost none! With a little highlighter and illuminator to give glowing skin, this gorgeous look is easy to recreate and puts all the emphasis on big lips and on detailed hair.

The hair was definitely my favourite part of the look. A sleek and smooth ponytail is brought to a whole other level with a fishnet cuff- so chic and edgy!

On the other side of the spectrum is this look by Valentino. In one word, it's just plain pretty.

The models shone with glowing skin! The look for this show was feminine, soft and delicate. Lips were painted a pale pink, and looked natural and plump. Eye make up is minimal, with light sheer sweeps of pink and taupe shadows. Eyelashes were also played up with a coat of mascara.

The hair is on the messy side, with an adorable milk maid style braid. I love how organic and sweet this is!

Which one of these looks would you go for?

I love the dark sultry lip colors but do go lighter in the spring and summer.

I like the feminine side to the Valentino look, but would pull from the DK look as well.. I just don't think my hair could ever look that perfect.

@AlexJC - can't wait to see the next DIY!

I would definitely go for the Valentino look :) It's very pretty, easy to receate, and feminine. The dark lip is too much for an everyday thing.

I like dark mood, black nail polish to prove it. However, I can never pull it off, the dark face, dark mascara, really dark lipstick?

I would be able to do the simple and subtle style, even minimal lipstick by Valentino. Since I have long hair, I have to ask my hair stylist if my hair will obey to that braid. :)

Definitely love Valentino. Spell classic especially in the office.

Valentino is always a hit never fails always classy and on top very nice... Also so happy I never tweezed my eye brows thin ... Lol the fuller brows on the modles look great!
