How to Get out of Diaper Duty: A Confessional
No baby knows how to fill a diaper quite like my son.  It's epic, really.  Even as a newborn when we heard the grunts, saw the redness in his face and the concentration in his stare, we knew it was time to brace for the worst.

But ladies, get ready to thank me because I have figured out how to get my husband to change almost every evening and weekend diaper our son has had for the last 8 months.  I'm going to let you in on my little secret: Convince him it's Daddy & Baby Bonding Time!

No joke, this is what I do:

Baby: Grrrrrunt!

Me: (smiles evilly)

Baby: GRRRRRRRRRR….

Me: Oh Daddy!

Alex: (from the basement wielding a power drill) Ya?

Me: Our son needs you!

Baby: …UUUUUNNNNNT!  (Brief pause during which he smiles with relief)  Agoo?

Alex: (Upstairs now, covered in drywall dust) So what's the problem?

Me:  He has a dirty diaper.  Can you help him out with that?

Alex:  Are you serious? I'm in the middle of (… whatever.  I honestly have no idea what he does down there)

Me:   But he misses you!  You're always so busy and he loves spending time with you.

Baby: (showcasing his best gummy smile. He's totally in on this) Gaaaah?

Me: Awwww! Look how excited he is to see you!

Alex: (sighing) Fine.  Hi buddy!

And up they go to the nursery for a diaper change.

I actually think he doesn't mind it.  Who wouldn't love seeing the little chubster stuffing his feet in his mouth while burbling something unintelligible?  I've even caught Alex singing to him during this intimate time.

It's more important than ever for Dads to be hands-on with kids right from the start, being a good example of a man, a father and husband.  These precious moments together in the nursery are a great foundation.  And, it gives me a much needed break!

Who does most of the diaper duty in your house?

I don't mind being on diaper duty. It's feeding I absolutely hate. Sometimes he takes forever, or he's so messy, or fussy and he just won't finish a bottle. I'd rather deal with messy diapers over that. Plus he's always particularly happy on the changing table for some reason.

What a cute story! I wish this would work with my husband. He's fine with changing diapers unless they are the stinky ones LOL

Hahaha, great story! I do a very similar thing to my husband....but in the end, as stinky as it may be, it really is a good time for bonding :)

That was great Ali, you have that man of yours trained well.LOL Back in
the day when our guy's were little my hubby would do the deed, but only
if he really had to. Other wise it was mom, or grandma doing it. I'm
sure happy those days are over with.LOL
