DIY: How To Make Homemade Bath Bombs

After the stress of the holidays (and not to mention that late night New Years Eve bash), you need some time to decompress. Is there any better remedy for your stress than a warm, therapeutic bath?

I don't think so! So, with that in mind, we have an easy to follow and simple to recreate DIY bath bomb recipe. You and your body will thank me, when you're slipping into an aromatic tub that lifts away all the tension!

Here's what you'll need:

1/2 cup citric acid (available at most grocery stores)
1 cup baking soda
3/4 cup cornstarch
1/4 cup sugar
Food colouring
Essential oil (of your choice)

Equipment
Spray bottle
Silicone ice cube tray

Step 1: Add dry ingredients

Stir together citric acid, baking soda, and cornstarch in a large glass measuring cup. Using a sifter, scoop up the mixture and pass it through in the same bowl, to get rid of any large clumps and make sure it is well mixed. Stir in sugar.

Step 2: Add colour and scent

Fill a small spray bottle with water and add food coloring. Lightly spritz the mixture, making sure not to  dampen it too much or it will fizz. Try using the bottle to spritz in light layers from a distance.

Add essential oil in drops until strength of scent is to your liking. Stir with a spoon to distribute the scent and then using your hands (or a spoon), alternate between mixing and spritzing on more colour until the colour is even throughout and it is the shade you want. The mixture may be crumbly but should be packable.

Step 3: Let dry

Spoon into ice-cube tray, pressing firmly. Let dry at room temperature overnight. Pop out of tray gently.

These bath bombs also make a fabulous gift for a loved one (or yourself)! Try and have fun with different colours, scents and by using different shaped trays! Have fun!
