Fall Hair Styles Tutorial: Long Hair Updo

Jenni and I went to the Robin Barker Salon the other day and Robin Barker himself was there on hand to show us some quick and easy up dos for a day time, casual look. This look interprets the messy bun as seen on many of the runway shows, but toned down to make it wearable for school or the office. What I love about this ‘do is the fact that it isn't fussy, it doesn’t require much effort but you still look chic and put together.

Step 1: Starting  at the back of your head, separate hair into large strands

Step 2: Taking one chunk at a time, twist the strand and bring it up to the top of your head.

Step 3: Bobby-pin the end, making sure to use two bobby-pins and criss crossing them into an ‘X’ shape.

Step 4:  Do this for every strand, almost like you are pulling your hair together into a ponytail. The ends of your hair might be flopping around, but don’t freak out- we aren’t done yet.

Step 5: Robin suggests taking the ends of your hair and twisting them together to create a cute top knot. If you are feeling edgy, try doing a messy up do like Alexandra’s. Robin brushed out her ends before starting the hair do and after bringing all the strands up, only twisted some pieces and brought them down with a  bobby pin.

If you want to adjust this look for a more formal occasion, try curling your hair with a large barrel curler before starting the hair do. After bringing all your strands up, bobby pin your large curls loosely on top of your head to create a loose bun. Make sure to keep check back every Thursday for new tips from the hair master that is Robin Barker!

Love this! I'm going to try it for a day wedding on Saturday with a large barrel curling iron :) Looking forward to more hair-do's!

I love how it poofs at the top! I wish I could do that with my hair, but I'm afraid that it's too thin to stay put. Maybe with some hairspray!
