How to Style the Ballerina Bun in 4 Quick Steps

Posted by Cathy | Tuesday January 4, 201116 comments

The Ballerina Bun was one of the trendy hairstyles in 2010 and we expect it to transition smoothly into 2011.  It's easy to do and works for both daytime and evening.

Sarah Jessica Parker's go-to style of the year has also been spotted on other celebs like Kate Bosworth, Sienna Miller and Rachel McAdams.

Here's how to get the look:

Step 1: Using a hairbrush, smooth your hair into a high ponytail on the crown of your head or just below the crown.  Secure with an elastic hairband

Step 2: Add volume by teasing small sections of your ponytail at a time.  If you have thick or curly hair, you may want to bypass this step.

Step 3:  Wrap small sections of hair around the hairband at a time to create a full bun.  Pin each piece as you go.  It's best to start with the pieces at the front.

Step 4:  Hairspray, hairspray, hairspray.

Are you wearing the Ballerina Bun or is it time to move on?

Great hair do for those lazy days, late days and "I-forgot-to-wash-my-hair" days. Love buns so much I have been wearing this hairstyle quite often nowadays.

This is my go-to hair when my hair seems unmanageable (which is quite often). I think it's really cute on a lounge-y night in watching movies or it can be quite elegant when paired with a daring shade of lipstick!

I guess strictly speaking these aren't actual ballerina buns, more like "inspired by ballerinas" buns!

So the mainpage says "ballerina bun: how to". I think "what exactly do ballerina buns look like? any different from the "buns" you get from doing pilates, yoga or other forms of exercise??"

I click on the link and see ... hair!! LOL

umm... so i think the ballerina bun hair style is fabulous!! looks extremely classy, fun and girly at the same time! :-)

I haven't had a cut in, oh, about 10 months so my hair is always in a bun or a ponytail. But I think that the former always looks more chic!
