Makeup Transformations: Metallic Eyes

Posted by ChickAdvisor Team | Monday July 25, 201136 comments

The stars are out this summer in full force promoting music, movies and perfumes. Lately the likes of Katy Perry and Emma Watson have been spotted rocking a metallic eye. So we thought we’d give shining like the stars a try.

Tasha channelled Emma Watson with her mixed metals. The gold shadow is part of Annabelle eyeshadow quad in Disturbia, while the cluster of glitter is Urban Decay Heavy Metal Glitter eye liner in Baked

With a little help from Alexandra, Michelle mixed the blue and gold shades of the Annabelle quad in Disturbia to add a little sparkle to her eyes.

Tammy tried a golden version of Katy Perry's all-over copper eye. She used Urban Decay eye shadow in Half-baked as the shadow, and dipped the brush in water to line her eyes a little brighter.

Alexandra added the copper shade of the Annabelle quad in Disturbia to her natural look. While the shade looks fierce in the package, on Alexandra it only adds a subtle shine.

We're over the moon with Jenni’s silver eye. She used Annabelle Glitterama liquid eyeliner in Plutonium to get her eyes shining like stars.

So what do you think of our metallic eyes? Tell us before July 31 and one lucky commenter will win a prize.

Coastal Scents has some very good metallic hot pots. I don't like all of them, just based on my color preferneces, but they are truly metallic looking. I have several of them and love them as they are extremely pigmented. Honestly, they are far BETTER than anything MAC sells. They are also very cheap when compared to other brands, and very large. You can buy them separately as Hot Pots, like MAC eye shadow single refills, and put them into their palettes. The palettes come in either 4 pans or 12 pans. I have one of each. They are very high quality, sturdy as all hell, some with a massive high quality mirror in them, and travel really well. They are also very affordable. I got them when they were 40% off, just recently, and absolutely love them. Even their matte Hot Pots are killer. Very pigmented, really smooth, and apply very nicely. My favorite matte shadows. All of their Hot Pots - the metallics, shimmers, mattes and others - are very different from their crappy 88 palettes, to be quite honest, which are not very good at all.

I love it on other people, but personally would not wear metallic. Hate getting glitter all over me.

I like Jenni and Tasha's best, I think everyone else's looks a little too subtle.

I love metallic eyes, they are so versatile. They can be dark and dramatic but also soft and dreamy, and everything in between! I love playing with golds and bronzes because they flatter all skin tones and tend to look chic but effortless.

Personally, I have always really hated Katy perry's look and would never try to emulate anything she does. She just always looks like she's trying too hard and that she isn't wearing her own true style. Nothing she seems to wear winds up looking good on her. Makes me literally shudder as it's just painful to look at her clothing and makeup. The ChickAdvisor women look far better than Katy perry, IMO, although I have never and will never put one speck of glitter on my own face or body. I haven't yet seen anybody wear glittery anything - be it eye shadows, liners, mascaras, etc - that it looks good on. Not face to face or in the media.

My favorite 2 of the above women are definitely Alexandra and Michelle. I also don't feel that metallics are only reserved for people who are in their 20s and 30s only. I'm 43 and have plenty of different eye shadows in many different finishes, several of them being metallic. I would never hesitate to wear them, and never do, based on only my age. Pigments can also look very metallic when foiled, which I also use quite a bit of for lining and on my lids.

My favorite intense 'metallic' look is using those new L'Oreal Infallible eye shadows. God, they are seriously gorgeous and look very metallic to me when foiled. I'm surprised none of those products were used for these 'transformations' as these looks are not quite what I was expecting when I saw the word 'metallic'. I thought the looks would be a lot more intense.

I think it's a fun look, but not for everyone. My favourite is Jenni's.

The transformation in these photos is very subtle, however it does work well for everyday wear. I would go a little more dramatic for an evening out.
