Summer Vacation Guide: I'm On a Boat

Posted by Alexandra C. | Wednesday July 20, 20116 comments
Yeah, never thought I'd be on a boat, it's a big blue watery road. Poseidon, look at me, oh, all hands on deck. Never thought I'd see the day when a big boat coming my way. - Lonely Island "I'm on a boat"

Living in Toronto, the closest I have ever got to going on a real boat trip was the summer my friend took me to her family's small yacht on Lake Ontario. It wasn't quite the cruise I wanted. For this summer vacation guide though, I am channeling the Italian Riveria- I'm thinking 1950's Italy- coastal villages and old fishing ports.

So, whether you're on a Disney cruise, your private luxury yacht or even a canoe on Lake Ontario, here are the items to inspire your new "bella vita".

1. Aldo MCCARRY Flats C$60.00
The nautical theme has been trending for a while now, but I feel like if you are on a boat it is only right that you wear something with stripes and anchors! The little bauble detailing as well as the zipper bow make these practical flats super sweet.

2. DVF Bubsy Day Scarf C$200.76
Nothing says, "Grace Kelly, eat your heart out" like a printed head scarf paired with oversized cat eye sunglasses. This Diane Von Furstenberg scarf has a fantastic geometric print, I like to imagine myself wearing this while the wind blows through my hair and wear this scarf with...

 3. Forever 21 Cat Eye Sunglasses C$6.80 to really get a 50's vibe going. Sophia Loren is going to be so jealous.

4. Coleman Steel Belter Red Cooler C$159.99
This retro style cooler is going to be way cooler (pun, intended) than any other one you might find. A great item to bring on a boat, stock it full of Italian sodas to sip while on the deck.

5. Lomography Diana F+ Camera C$95.00
If we're going for an old school feel, we have to include a vintage inspired camera, that even take vintage style pictures for your trip! This camera will help transport you back in time and the proof will be in your photo album.

1. Urban Outfitters Ruched One Piece Swimsuit C$89.00
This swimsuit is super flattering on almost anyone. The rucking and sweet heart neckline helps to give the illusion of curves and if you already have them, will help to accenuate them, while hiding the trouble areas.

2. Centrios Blackpool Waterprood Wireless Speakers C$74.99
If you really want to commit to your vacation, try some Italian folk music. If that isn't your thing, why not blast some Gaga on your Italian sailing adventure? Did you know that Lady Gaga was of Italian descent? In any case, these waterproof speakers are going to provide you will quality sound without the fear of water splashing and ruining your speakers.

3. Ikea Gronska Bag C$4.99
A steal at only $4.99, this cotton tote from Ikea is great for carting around all your necessities. And while you are there, why not pick one up in every colour? I like the stripes too- very appropriate for sailing!

4. Aldo Dukart Summer Hat C$25.00
Being on a boat is dangerous for your sensitive skin, protect it with a big floppy summer hat. These super trendy hats are great with big shades and look fabulous with anything from a swimsuit to a maxi dress. A big hat will be a dramatic piece to chic up an outfit!

5. Amazon.ca Barrel Picnic Basket C$94.48
If you're going to be on the Italian Riviera, why not pack a picnic basket and eat al fresco? This basket is big enough to hold all your olives, cheeses and breads and maybe a bottle of wine too! I feel like the grape print lining is something my Nonna would of approved of too.

What is your favourite vacation destination?

Ahhh, I'm on a Boat - great song, great video. My Father in Law built the most amazing boat from scratch in his garage, in his spare time. You'd never believe it to see it. But we don't live in the city so I only get to go for rides when we visit. I'd love to be on that boat right now!

Hahahah I LOVE the header picture! Makes me want to sing the song but I'd rather not embarrass myself in the office.
