Weekend Movie Roundup: For Him, For Her, For All

Newsflash: there are other movies currently in theatres other than Harry Potter: Deathly Hallows (pt 1).  And now that we're firmly into the no-man's-land season between mildly crisp Autumn days and fluffy festive snow (read here: icky late November dreary drizzle), there's nothing like a good flick and an extra large tub of artery clogging double buttered popcorn.

Man Pick - Unstoppable

At first glance, this looks like a tired remake of the forgettable Keanu Reeves/Sandra Bullock effort Speed.  It would be unfair to say the trailer leaves me cold, when in truth I forgot it as soon as it was over.  However, the critics love it as a loud, explosive action flick that, while predictable, does after all star perennial favourite Denzel Washington and my personal current crush Chris Pine (yes, I am a dork).

Chick Pick - The King's Speech

Most definitely not a movie I'd take my man to because it's "a thinker", but since Colin Firth and Helena Bonham Carter are involved, that's reason enough for me.  It would seem the critics agree.

Family Flick - Tangled

Rapunzel finally makes her debut at Disney with Mandy Moore in the title role.  Early reviews suggest it's not Disney's pinnacle effort but features plenty of laughs and great animation.

Can't Wait For - Black Swan

Natalie Portman stars in this psychological thriller set in a New York City ballet troupe.  While Ms. Portman has not always made the best casting choices (ahem, Star Wars), I loved her in Closer and can't wait to see her come December 3.  So far, the reviews are overwhelmingly favourable.

Which movie will you see this weekend?

Yes, seriously creepy and I'm thinking has Oscar written all over it.

Tangled looks adorable - I want to take my little cousin with me!

This was my first time watching the Black Swan trailer and I gotta say, it looks incredible! But creepy...

I'M SO WITH YOU ON CHRIS PINE! I fell in love with him when I watched Star Trek (and he's probably the only reason why I even watched the movie in the first place :P)... le sigh <3

Haha Tangled looks adorable :) I love how all the new princess movies are about female empowerment. But that just makes the guys think that they can just slack off and do nothing while the women handle everything on their own! I see that already in my generation, sadly :(

And Black Swan gives me the chills, but it looks like it'd be a good movie... to watch with 10 friends gathered around you.
