Yay or Nay?: Fur Skirt

Posted by Alexandra C. | Monday August 22, 201161 comments

Last winter and fall, the fur was flying. We saw fur coats, fur shawls and fur scarves. Even faux fox tail key chains for your purses! What about a fur skirt though? Miu Miu (middle) sent a fur skirt down the runway last fall 2010, Tracy Reese (right) had one in her collection for fall 2011, Micheal Kors (left) designed a fur skirt in fall 2010. It works on models on the runway- but could it ever work in reality?

While I love the feel and look of fur and the warmth it provides in winter, I’m not sure that I could pull this look off.  I mean, what would you even pair with it? Here are three options that I think could possibly work:

1. Top Shop Battered Sequin Sleeve Tee (C$59.00)
2. Gap Raw-Edge Henley Shirt (C$64.95)
3. 3.1 Phillip Lim Black Chiffon Long Sleeve Melange T-Shirt (US$495.00)

Let me know what you think though- is the skirt wearable? What would you wear it with? Or would you completely pass on it? Leave a comment below- is it a yay or nay for the fur skirt?

Um, no... I don't think this looks good on anyone but a twig. If you are bigger than a size 2, wearing a skirt like this will make you look like an animal storing fat for the winter. Definitely not for the average woman!!

ick, a double nay for me, they look like leftover muppet monster puppets from the 70's.

Definitely nay! I'm not a fur person in general - faux or real. But this seems like it'd add way too much volume to the bottom... and for pear shapes like me, that's the last thing I'm looking for.

As an animal lover real fur is a NO, it is much better suited for the animal(s) that it came from. However a faux fur would be cute in the right frame. Paring it with the black chiffon long sleeve shirt, would be really cute. Add some leather boots and silver jewellery (a long chunky necklace with matching bracelet).

Real fur repulses me, but I'm all for faux fur.
Having said that, I don't think this look will work for the average woman. Maybe for Lady Gaga!

Nope, no thanks. I don't like the look of fur or the thought of wearing a dead animal. Blech
