Yay or Nay?: Fur Skirt

Posted by Alexandra C. | Monday August 22, 201161 comments

Last winter and fall, the fur was flying. We saw fur coats, fur shawls and fur scarves. Even faux fox tail key chains for your purses! What about a fur skirt though? Miu Miu (middle) sent a fur skirt down the runway last fall 2010, Tracy Reese (right) had one in her collection for fall 2011, Micheal Kors (left) designed a fur skirt in fall 2010. It works on models on the runway- but could it ever work in reality?

While I love the feel and look of fur and the warmth it provides in winter, I’m not sure that I could pull this look off.  I mean, what would you even pair with it? Here are three options that I think could possibly work:

1. Top Shop Battered Sequin Sleeve Tee (C$59.00)
2. Gap Raw-Edge Henley Shirt (C$64.95)
3. 3.1 Phillip Lim Black Chiffon Long Sleeve Melange T-Shirt (US$495.00)

Let me know what you think though- is the skirt wearable? What would you wear it with? Or would you completely pass on it? Leave a comment below- is it a yay or nay for the fur skirt?

A definite Nay on this one. This look should remain on the runway. I think this would be hard to pull off and it's not really the most flattering look.

NAY!!! Fur whether faux or real looks unflattering and all around terrible!

Nay. Not fur for bottoms, but maybe a cute sweater. :)

A Definite Nay. It looks very stiff and unflattering. It just doesn't work.

NAY!I would never support buying fur products. There are many faux alternatives on the market that there is no excuse for fur products to still be available. Its nice to see so many of the readers feel the same way.

NAY! I too hope these are faux fur. It deeply saddens (and thoroughly disgusts) me that real fur has made a return to fashion over the past few years; it is unconscionable. As far as the style goes: Unless a person is emaciated to the point of being near death...I think this look would make them appear bottom heavy. Not a nice look.

I hope these are faux, if not I think that killing animals for fashion is horrible and does not have to be done in our society.
