Yay or Nay?: Fur Skirt

Posted by Alexandra C. | Monday August 22, 201161 comments

Last winter and fall, the fur was flying. We saw fur coats, fur shawls and fur scarves. Even faux fox tail key chains for your purses! What about a fur skirt though? Miu Miu (middle) sent a fur skirt down the runway last fall 2010, Tracy Reese (right) had one in her collection for fall 2011, Micheal Kors (left) designed a fur skirt in fall 2010. It works on models on the runway- but could it ever work in reality?

While I love the feel and look of fur and the warmth it provides in winter, I’m not sure that I could pull this look off.  I mean, what would you even pair with it? Here are three options that I think could possibly work:

1. Top Shop Battered Sequin Sleeve Tee (C$59.00)
2. Gap Raw-Edge Henley Shirt (C$64.95)
3. 3.1 Phillip Lim Black Chiffon Long Sleeve Melange T-Shirt (US$495.00)

Let me know what you think though- is the skirt wearable? What would you wear it with? Or would you completely pass on it? Leave a comment below- is it a yay or nay for the fur skirt?

Nay...i have wide-set hips so have a hard enough time finding skirts that sit nicely as it is, adding the extra weight of fur would definitely not help

Its a hard look to pull off. Maybe a skirt wit a fur accent wold work better, but not a skirt made entirely out of fur.

Nay, not a big fan of fur in general.

I vote YAH on the fur skirt, I think it's totally fun and youthful. I would pair it with some flat black leather boots and a slouchy grey long sleeved tee with some statement jewelry and tights of course in a deep purple or green maybe?

I think this look is fun and cool to look at on the runway but realistically.... I don't think I could wear this in my day to day life.

As for feathers on the other han @jskim07 maybe I could see that...

Nay! I think it belongs on the runway. The volume it creates on our lower half will make us look bigger and since most of these models are size - 00 it works for them. I don't see it working for the average woman.
