Looking back on your past few New Year's Eve celebrations, do you find it hard to remember which one was which? This is probably because they were all spent the same way. This year, we want to help you make the ball dropping fiesta one to remember, so we've compiled a list of 5 unconventional ways to start off the new decade.

1. Best trend of the decade bash
Round up your friends and family for a "Best trend of the decade" shindig at your place. See what everyone comes up with when a little closet digging is involved, and preserve the memories by making sure everyone leaves with a printed photo of themselves in full costume.

2. Favourite film of the decade night
If you're in the mood for something a little more intimate, grab your closest friends and tell each of them to bring their favourite movie of the past ten years. If any of you have a personal home theatre, commiserate there. Just hope no one brings Crossroads!

3. Good old-fashioned family fun
Give the kids something to remember with the same evening of games and entertainment that you loved when you were a kid. Enjoy board games and cards, or give the night a competitive edge with a round of charades, kids. vs. parents.

4. Take a drive to a remote area
For a romantic night for two, escape the lights and hustle of the city by taking a drive out of town. Find a place to park the car, slide the sunroof open and gaze at the Big Dipper while you stay warm underneath some blankets. Trade the champagne for hot cocoa.

5. Go out for a late-night dinner
Whether it's a date for two or a night for several to enjoy, dinner in a restaurant is a great way for the exhausted holiday hosts to spend a carefree night out. Dress up, and make a late reservation, so you can be there for the countdown or make it home just in time.
