Edgy Trends: Socks with Heels

Posted by Katie Coristine | Thursday July 15, 20109 comments
What was once a tourist’s faux-pas is now the hippest thing in fashion since the ankle bootie: wearing socks with heels.

We noticed the trend on the runway from the likes of John Galliano, Dior, Marni, and Canada’s own Joe Fresh, a look that has many variations from feminine ankle socks to bunchy mid calf or full out knee highs.  Not an easy look to sport - but if you have the guts, the payoff could be well worth the risk.

Pair these socks with any open- or closed-toe heels:

Pelerine ankle socks in Ivory ($6)
FALKE ‘family’ Knee-High Socks ($22)
Rose Lace ankle socks in black or white ($10)

Urban Outfitters' Pointelle ankle socks ($5)
Nordstrom Herringbone socks ($8)

Being a definite attention grabber, if you don’t intend to flaunt your legs you should avoid this look.  Thick socks add weight to your legs, so keep things light and flirty!  If worn well this look can be fun and comfy.  See how Mandy posed them.

Will you try this edgy look

There are some great embellished socks to really rock this trend
they have nailheads and studs and take your shoes and legs to the next level.

This is one trend I think where you really need to know how to pull the whole outfit together. I can already see how some will adapt this trend really disadvantageously!

New? Old to me - we used to wear socks with a lace ruffle at the ankle in the 80's. Crudely called 'F' me socks. I like the idea since it will prevent blisters when your feet are sticking to your summer heeled sandels!

Bored: Someone just said the same thing on Twitter. I can see that, but how adorable will this look in fall? I haven't tried it yet, but I'm going to!

I thought I would hate this trend, but I have to say I love it! It's something that would look good on even the shortest legs :)
