Top 5 Spring 2013 Accessory Trends: How to Get Them

Posted by Melissa | Thursday March 14, 201312 comments

This season the runway has brought us a ton of eye-catching accessories that simply demand attention. And why not? The weather might require you to wear a coat over a fabulous outfit, but with a great set of accessories you can still put your incredible style on display as we transition into spring.

Here’s how you can bring the hottest trends on the runway to your wardrobe. Let’s hope you’ve made room for them all!

Lucite

Love it or hate it, see-through accessories have clearly taken the runway by storm. Lucite’s formerly trashy rep has gotten a much needed update, and it’s the must-have for a new spring look. Now you can feel like Cinderella without worrying about your heels shattering into a million pieces!

Get The Look:

1. NastyGal In The Clear Bangle (US$4.80, on sale)

2. New Look Clear Perspex Hard Box Clutch, New Look (UK$12.99)

High Contrast

Sleek, professional, and très chic. Black and white pieces are timeless and create an instant modern feel that will keep your look fresh even after spring passes. Black and white goes with just about everything, and these pieces are a quick fix for when you need your look to be a little more dressed-up.

Get The Look:

1. NastyGal High Contrast Crossbody Bag (US$58.00)

2. MSGM Stretch Belt (US$39.12, on sale)

Metallics

Chunky metal accessories were a hit and are appearing in several collections, with models sporting heavy chains, bangles and rings. With the sunshine on its way, having a bold metal piece is essential for adding a little glimmer to any outfit.

Get The Look:

1. ASOS Pack of Two Smooth Double Cuffs (C$26.19)

2. GoJane Thick Plate Chain Necklace, GoJane (US$45.00)

Quirky n' Kitsch

Designers this year have found the perfect balance between standing out and looking gaudy, with Chanel leading the pack. While I haven’t entirely made up my mind on the hula hoop bag, these pieces inject some much needed fun and can give any outfit a little kick.

Get The Look:

1. Zara Maxi Pearl Necklace (C$35.90)

2. ASOS A Novel Clutch Bag (US$42.39)

Bohemian

With all the stark colour choices and geometric pieces on the runway, it was refreshing to see some playful bohemian inspired accessories thrown into the mix. These ornate pieces have taken some cues from les beaux-arts but still keep the free-spirited charm that defines the overall style.

Get The Look:

1. Forever 21 Burnished Hand Chain (C$8.80)

2. Nasty Gal Lagoon Earrings (US$25.00)

Which of these trends will look the best in your closet?

Bigger is not always better!!!!! Just keep it simple, classy and fun. Most of the high fashion is too extreme.

A lot of these are just too high fashion for the normal day...and a little out there.

I like the Forever 21 Burnished Hand Chain and the Nasty Gal Lagoon Earrings. I also like the ASOS smooth double cuffs and the Plate chain Necklace. That hoop bag reminds me of a hula hoops we had as kids. I never could get that thing to go around more then once.LOL

Metallic and Bohemian are the only styles im really liking here! I can't staand see-through bags, i'm afraid to see what I have in my own purse half the time, I don't need to see inside yours lol!

Hah, that hula hoop bag might finally be big enough to hold all of my cram! That's also why I'd never buy a Lucite clutch. I don't need anyone seeing what the inside of my bag looks like (even when I clean it out - which is frequent - it's still full of whatever). I like the high contrast look!
