Looking for an inexpensive getaway closer to home?  Escape into the quiet atmosphere, relaxing scenery, and rich history of Niagara Falls - a fun alternative to the hurricane prone Caribbean.

Stay: Spend quality time with your family at a cozy Bed and Breakfast by Lake Ontario.  Niagara-on-the-Lake B&Bs have a historical and serene ambiance unlike hotels in the city.

See: Climb aboard the Maid of the Mist and experience the Falls closer than ever.

Eat: Take in the Falls’ nightly illumination and seasonal fireworks over dinner 775 feet up in the revolving Skylon Tower

Play: Tour and taste award-winning wines and paired cheeses at local vineyards.  Learn about wine production and seize the chance to purchase a local wine you won’t find elsewhere outside the region.  Later, experience Mystery on the Lake: an interactive theatrical performance that challenges you to walk around town meeting characters for clues to solve historical mysteries.

Experience: Get the bird’s eye view via helicopter tour of the Falls, Niagara-on-the-Lake, and other historic landmarks.

I've new to the city and I've traveled quiet a few places, but never to Niagara falls. It looks amazing, can you actually get that close to the falls? I've got to check it out before I've got to start work again, thanks for this article!

Another cool thing to do in Niagara is the Journey Behind the Falls. You get to walk through these caves and stand behind one of the waterfalls -- I thought it was a really nice alternative to Maid of the Mist!
