We're Obsessed With... The Hunger Games

The other day we posted on our Facebook page that some of the Chick staff had just finished reading The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins. We had a quite the response and even now when anyone in the office mentions the book, we start the discussion all over again!

Jenni says that The Hunger Games is the dessert to Harry Potter while Tammy believes the book has a raw edge unlike anything else she's read before. Tammy is also putting her money on The Hunger Games being "the next Twilight". Tammy might be right about that, The Hunger Games is being made into a movie and according to the IMDB page, it will be released March 2012. Newbie Josh Hutcherson and Jennifer Lawrence known for roles in Winter's Bone and X-Men will be playing the main characters.

Now, confession time, I haven't actually read The Hunger Games yet. But- wait, before you get your pitchforks out, let me say that I promise to start reading it tonight! Deal? So, because I haven't started reading it yet, here is a brief synopsis via amazon.ca

"In the ruins of a place once known as North America lies the nation of Panem, a shining Capitol surrounded by twelve outlying districts. The Capitol is harsh and cruel and keeps the other districts in line by forcing them to participate in the annual Hunger Games, a fight-to-the-death on live TV. One boy and one girl between the ages of twelve and sixteen are selected by lottery to play. The winner brings riches and favor tohis or her district. But that is nothing compared to what the Capitol wins: one more year of fearful compliance with its rule. Sixteen-year-old Katniss Everdeen, who lives alone with her mother and younger sister, regards it as a death sentence when she is forced to represent her impoverished district in the Games."

YES YES YES YES YES! I'm in love with the Hunger Games. At first I wasn't so sure about the girl that was going to play Katniss but now that I see these pictures, I'm starting to like the idea. She looks great! I've only finished the first one so far but I can't wait for the movie to come out and I can't wait to finish the next two books!
OMG I'm so excited!
