Flash Mob Serenades with 'Hallelujah Chorus'

Posted by Claire | Monday December 6, 201011 comments

What if you were sitting in the food court with a combo platter from China Wok, minding your own business and tuning out the world-- and then a flash mob erupts into the Hallelujah Chorus?  That's exactly what happened to the mall customers of Welland, ON's Seaway Mall a few weeks ago.

Whether or not you share the spirit of the song, it looked like the gesture by Chorus Niagara was very well received indeed.  I, for one, would undoubtedly have wanted to join in.

thetats & roadee, I completely agree. I too thought some people just joined in. I would totally be one of those people! What a cool way to make everyone smile!

Jen, fab idea. We could throw lip glosses at people!

Actually, I'm assuming that the overwhelming majority of the singers were part of the choir, if not all of them. For one, the Hallelujah Chorus is a complex song that if you don't know your part, you will stand out on certain sections and I heard no such flubs. Second, while I am not familiar with "Chorus Niagara", if it's a quasi-professional community choir there would be people of all ages. There were one or two people singing but still sitting down - I could imagine that they might not have been part of the choir, but were obviously familiar with the song.

It is tricky because they're all in plainsclothes! I loved the first man who looks like he sauntered in in his jammies (the bass who sang after the first woman).

Amazing. I've done my fair share of flashmobs when I was a teenager, but it was mostly silly things like dropping something metal at the same time or freezing at a mall for 2 minutes. This is so great, I love it. Makes me want to rejoin the choir. Some of the people look professional, but some of them do look like they just stood up and joined everyone (especially some of the older people). I can't stop replaying it.

omg, that is amazing! I love that fact that there were so many different ethnicities and age groups in that choir. What an amazing performance!

That's so amazing! I find it kinda funny how after the song they just resume what they were doing like nothing happened. I think I would've stood up and pretended I'm with them and just sing along :P
