Nail Art Picks from Spring 2013 NYFW

The spring 2013 shows at NYFW brought some gorgeous and drool-worthy fashion. And when it came to nail art, I was not disappointed. I'm so impressed by how continually creative and innovative designers can get with nail art! Just when you think you've seen it all (i.e. remember the caviar mani?), they come out with something even cooler.

I took a look at some of the nail art this season and came up with my top 10 picks for spring 2013. There are some major nail art trend alerts happening in this list so be sure to let us know which ones are your faves!

(clockwise from top left)

Ruffian: These gold cut-out overlays are so beautiful and delicate. I hope we start seeing these available in stores soon!

Rodarte: This nude on nude, 3D design by CND features a bandage like texture and design.

Veronica Beard: Mint and gold metallic looks so feminine and chic together in this art by Essie.

Prabal Gurung: On the opposite end of the spectrum are these blood dripping nails. Kind of Halloween-y and eerie but I'm digging this edgy look.

Rachel Antoff: Three key designs, inspired by graffiti and geometric shapes were used in Rachel Antoff's show. Note the lucite tips as seen in last spring's shows as well.

(clockwise from top left)

Charlotte Ronson: This nail art plays around with the ombre trend. Only instead of a gradient, we're seeing more striking, vertical lines.

Kate Spade: This polish, done by Deborah Lippman, is definitely one of my personal favourites. A vintage influenced gingham print is adorable in spring so obviously, I love it on nails!

Kaelen: While nail art usually aims to be impeccably done with clean cut lines, Butter London gave these models a distrissed, rustic and shabby chic manicure with rough lines in two tones.

Joy Ciocci: This combines three of our current favourite trends in one mani: lucite, caviar and glitter. The white and transparent colour palette is icy and elegant.

The Blonds: The Blonds are masters of over the top extravagance so why would we expect less from them when it comes to nail art? They used three looks for their show: shark bites, clear blue nails and coral-esque 3D add-ons. Love the beach inspired theme!

What is your favourite nail art for spring 2013? Which of these looks do you think will catch on and become the next big mani trend?

My favourite is the blood! I'm not really into that edgy, dark look, but these just look gorgeous and feminine even! I also really like the gold overlay, the blue ombre, and the clear blue nails! All stunning!

@midnightsun2288: I totally agree about the pointy nails! Plus that shape tends to break more easily, in my experience.

As for the art, I like a few of them but I don't like anything with the caviar style. I just don't.

@Fredamans: some people just cannot grow their own nails long no matter what they do. I, for example, have to patch almost all of mine because they crack and chip very easily.

I love the nude and black nails with the rough edges and the gold and mint ones are adorable!

The only ones I like are the mint and metallic from Veronica Beard, and the black and nude by Kaelen. Most of the others are just tacky, and what is with the long cat-like pointy nail shape? Is that what's in style now? yuck.

Too bad some of those ladies don't have their own nails... it might sell to someone like me a little better if they did. I hate acrylic or press on nails.

Rachel Antoff's third nail look (bottom right) is awesome! I'm totally loving this look.
