New York Fashion Week Fall/Winter 2012 Beauty Trends with New Spring Makeup

New York Fashion Week is all about the trend spotting. Whether it's on the streets or on the runway, in February, New York becomes a hot bed for all things cool.

Browsing some of the hot beauty trends to come out so far, we stumbled upon this wearable look from Derek Lam Fall/Winter 2012.

I like to think of this look as "Bridget Bardot meets up-all-night-party girl"; almost like you were perfect and polished...yesterday. While the heavy eyes may be a bit much for the office, we think this dramatic look could be pulled off at night and because the hair is so 'messy chic', it definitely isn't difficult to achieve.

Here's our take on the look. The key elements for this are: lots and lots of black eyeliner, smudged for a smokey eye look, a highlighter in the inner corner, a soft pink blush, pale lip and heavy spider lashes

We suggest starting with your eyes and using a good base. Highlight in the inner corner next and bring it all the way mid eyelid.

Next, layer on that liner! Since you'll be smudging it, you can't really go wrong here. Be sure to get enough black on the both bottom and top. You can also use a brown or gold tone colour to help blend in the black and create a smokey look. Top with a few coats of mascara and you're looking good!

Finish your look with a pale pink lip and sweep on blush for a rosy hue. We love the idea of using Benefit's Posie Tint (US$28.00) for it's subtle and healthy glow so this might also be a good opportunity to try out our infamous Pepto Bismol substitute! Tie your hair back loosely, and let your fly-aways and strays hang down loosely. Try Goody Spin Pins (C$12.00) to achieve a relaxed up do and be sure to use a product like a salt spray for texture. We're currently in love with this homemade salt spray recipe over here.

1. L'Oreal Voluminous Smoldering Eyeliner (US$8.95)
2. L'Oreal Carbon Black Extra Intense Liquid Pencil Eyeliner (US$8.31)
3. Korres Lip Butter in Jasmine (US$9.00)
4. Rimmel Volume Flash Scandal Eyes Mascara (C$8.99)
5. Stila Smudge Crayon in Antique (US$22.00)

1. L'Oreal Color Infallible Eyeshadow in Coconut Shake (C$10.99)
2. MAC Lipstick in Innocence (C$17.50)
3. CoverGirl LashBlast 24 HR (US$6.39)
4. Dior DiorShow Mascara (C$37.00)
5. CoverGirl Intense ShadowBlast in Beige Blaze (US$7.49)

@patricia - I have always been worried about the exact same thing but lately have been playing around with really intense shades. While I always apply "a right time and place for everything" rule, making this not wearable for EVERY occasion, you might be surprised that, when smoked out properly and with the right outfit/accessories does not look over the top. It's just really glamourous! I was playing with some lavenders and deep purples the other day. It started out looking like I was in a bar fight but by the time I had blended and smoked it out just right, it was so beautiful that I wore it to... church. Yes. To church :)

Looks amazing! But I'm always very scared to use too much eyeliner! I'm worried I won't do it right and end up looking like i have two black eyes! :(
