People-Watching at Toronto Fashion Week: Playing With Patterns

Posted by Alexandra | Friday April 1, 20114 comments

This week in Toronto, LG Fashion Week has been filling up our days and nights. We're not the only ones! Plenty of chicks turned up for the shows, and we were inspired by all the looks we saw. These three ladies had a playful approach to pattern and texture—from mixing polka dots and animal prints to flowers and stripes.

We love the classic silhouette and accessories (pumps and pearls) this attendee paired with her polka dots, giraffe-print blouse and python-skin bag. The pop of red courtesy of the belt breaks up the prints beautifully.

This mix has us inspired for spring. The sheer, patterned hose and the marbled and muted light shift are the kinds of pieces that help make that transition from colder days to bare-legged weather. These kinds of tights are tricky for shoes, and the T-strap blends well, and makes her legs look nice and long.

This playful look mixes brights and muted tones. The bright flowered scarf and tights look rich against the chocolaty brown of the suede shoes and the knitted scarf (also love the broach fastener). The winter shorts, in a stripe, add another textural element.

What prints do you like to mix?

I have never thought of mixing patterns before, such a bold move! Definitely something I want to try out. I wonder where the marble tights were from?

I really like how the top look blends patterns you wouldn't normally think would work together, but they totally do!

I love the top two looks, though they should come with warning labels. As in, "wear 'em like this, not like that".

Cute!

I really like the tights. Nothing I would ever wear but I can appriciate them on someone else.
