Dear Winter,

Stop hating on our skin, would you?

Sincerely, ChickAdvisor Staff.

Every year winter comes, and every year it wins. It makes our skin dry, itchy or flakey. This year though, winter won't be winning- you will. We have fabulous tips and product recommendations from the staff of ChickAdvisor to help you battle the dry winter skin blues!

Alexandra

On a daily basis, I use Marcelle Hydra-C 24H Moisturizing Gel Cream (C$22.95). I like that isn't too thick, since it's a gel, which means my makeup goes on smoothly over top. At the same time, this moisturizer has good staying power. I also suggest investigating BB Creams, which are super moisturising but tinted- I use mine as a primer. They come in different varieties and are packed full of all that good skin stuff- check out our post on them here.

I swear by masks for any skin remedy. I usually use masks to help with blemishes, however this can be drying. Coupled with the cold winter air outside, my face gets to be very parched. I love this Clarins HydraQuech Cream Mask (C$39.00) to add some moisture back into my skin. I leave a layer on for about 15 minutes and then use a sensitive skin toner to remove the excess. For a less expensive option, try out this DIY Facial with oats and honey or this apple citrus cleanser

On super cold and dry days, I reach for my Creme de la Mer (US$130.00). I know, I know, it's super expensive, but i really think it does a great job moisturizing my skin, almost creating a barrier protecting it my the elements. I also find that since the product is so dense and I need so little of it, it works out to about the same as my regular Philosophy Hope in a Jar Moisturizer (C$38.00).

I recently went back home to Hong Kong and noticed that internal supplements are becoming super popular in Asia. I decided to try out Japan's top selling Meiji's Amino Collagen Premium supplement (US$55.40). Not only does this product provide collagen but it also packs a bunch of other goodies like the anti-aging promoting coenzyme Q10. Combined with my trusty Carlson Cod Liver Oil (US$34.93), I really feel that my skin is doing a lot better than previous winters. It feels more moisturized and glowy without being oily.

Orlane B21 Super Moisturizing Concentrate (C$99.00)  is simply amazing! I was experiencing extremely dry skin and a horrible break out during the cold season. I decided to use this and within the next few days, my skin was moisturized, non-flakey, and smooth once again. This moisturizer works extremely fast to repair your skin's moisture. It is non-greasy, glides on smoothly, and one jar will last you a long time.

I usually get extremely dry skin during this cold season, but Neutrogena Healthy Skin face lotion (US$11.99) makes my skin nice and smooth, protecting it from being flakey and dry. Finding a daily moisturizer that contains SPF is often forgotten in the winter months but it's still important, I like that this product contains an SPF 15.

Michelle

I use Nivea Visage Light Moisturizing Day Care (C$10.00) for normal to combination skin because it's moisturizing without feeling heavy and still has SPF 15 to protect my skin from the outdoor elements. I also enjoy using this moisturizer because I can apply more lotion to my face if it's still feeling a little tight, and I don't end up with white heads or acne when I do.

In the Fall and Winter months I switch from alternating my body lotions with sunless tanning lotions to Jergens Cherry-Almond Moisturizer (C$10.00). I love this lotion's scent, consistency and how fresh my skin feels after application. I notice my guests love to use it too, so I buy an extra bottle for our guest washroom.

Ali

Korres Basil Lemon Body Butter (US$31.21) is super moisturizing so my skin feels smooth all day long. I also like the fresh basil lemon scent.

Éclos Age- Defying Face Cream (C$24.99) uses plant stem cells to diminish the appearance of wrinkles, but what I love most is how incredibly soft if makes my face without being oily.

Claire

For extra hydration during the winter, I use an richer night cream on my face for both morning and night. I use Gehwol Med Salve foot cream (US$18.99) and Bath & Body Works True Blue Spa 'Shea It Isn't So' (US$15.00) on my heels and elbows, and on my hands, Burts Bees Lemon Butter Cuticle Cream (US$5.00).

Anything by Neutrogena or Nivea or Oil of Olay will always be good for winter dryness.

I switched to CereVe a year ago, as recomended by my Dermatoligist due to my very sensitive & dry skin. It is very moisturizing - no more dry skin in the winter time. Some of the brands mentioned above have broken me out.
