3 Eye Makeup Trends for Spring 2011

Three eye makeup trends we expect to see this spring are:

Bold & Bright Matte ColourChristian Dior Spring 2011Christian Dior Spring 2011

Last year we saw plenty of blended palettes but now it's all about a monochromatic look. Paired with the simple monochromatic and colour blocking fashion trends seen in New York for S/S 2011, it makes for a bold statement wearable on any complexion tone.  We'd wear this look with a bold black lash (even experiment with falsies for a punchier finish).

Try it bold...
L'Oreal Shadows L'Oreal Paris High Intensity Pigments in Brazen, Reckless or Snowy

... or in a lighter wash

Shu Uemura 'Morphorium Blue' Palette, NYX Single Pan in 'Tropical' or 'Cotton Candy', NARS 'Daphne'Sephora Jumbo Eye Pencil, Hello Kitty Charmmy Kohl Eyeliner Kit

The 'New' Smokey Eye
Coloured Smokey EyeArmani, Kim Kardashian, Marc Jacobs

No one's ready to say good-bye to the Smokey Eye. This season infuses a little more colour, like greys, navys and greens.

"I actually find that green is the most universally flattering shade to all colors of skin and eyes," says top makeup artist Pat McGrath. "It makes the whites of the eyes look whiter and contrasts (or harmonizes) with all colors of irises beautifully."

Smokey shades to play with:

NARS 'Earth Angel', Sephora Mono Eyeshadow 'Mysterious Forest' and 'Preppy Look', L'Oreal Paris Infinite Color 'Emerald Smokes', Maybelline New York Stylish Smokes 'Emerald Smokes'

Fresh Minimalism
Versace Spring ShowVersace

With artful application of makeup-that-looks-like-you're-not-wearing-makeup, these eyes glow with natural beauty. Eyebrows are strong but lighter and more feminine than what we've seen before. How to wear this look without looking tired?  Beauty Editor has a few ideas there.

Maybelline New York Fit Me Blush, Tweezerman Tweezers, Maybelline New York Define-A-Brow Pencil,  MaryKay Eye Primer, CoverGirl LashBlast Mascara

Which look are you most excited to wear?

Love the mix of colours! Spring 2011 should be all about colour!

I couldn't agree more with Pat McGrath. I think anyone can pull off a nice shade of green! I'm not exactly sure why, but it seems to be the most flattering for all skin tones.

I would love for a professional to show me how to do some of these looks - it takes me a while until I feel like I can wear the look out in public.
@mumaluv - I used to feel like that too, after I started using an eye primer and oil-mattifier I found it was easier to apply the make up without it smudging all down my face and melting in the middle of the day - that's the worst for the smoky eye.

@mamaluv try this (and try not to laugh at my attempt of seeming like i know what i'm talking about :-) lol ) Do one colour all over the lid, and a slightly different shade of the same colour on your crease around the main colour. I tried green using my Sephora Endless Colour Blockbuster. I used a matte green and then a different shade of green around the matt (not much blending). Looked good :)

I need lessons on the monochromatic look. Every time I try it, it looks like I've been in a bar fight. Looks gorgeous here, though!

I like all the eye combos! I think the swash of monochrome colour is fab, and looks vibrant and stylish on a low key day. The new smokey eye is beautiful too, allows us to play with more colours (instead of running out of black/brown and beige all the time). It's "smokey" but brightening (e.g. Kim K). The minimalism looks beautiful too, but on me I would add a pearl / peach colour on the lips (instead of going full skin nude), and maybe on the crease a slightly darker peach / lighter brown to create a bit more shadow, to add depth and colour.

I work in IT....but in my mind at least I'm a makeup artist ;-) LOL

I really like green smokey eyes too. I'm also getting into some of the purples I've seen - I'll have to try that soon!

I've been experimenting with the green smoky eye and I agree, it's much more flattering than some of the grey palettes I've tried.
