Exercises + Fitness Tips and Tricks For People Who Hate Exercising

Posted by Alexandra C. | Thursday May 30, 20139 comments

Just because I should do something or something is good for me, doesn't mean I enjoy doing it. Let me make my discomfort and displeasure known. For instance: I've actually purchased entire outfits in order to avoid doing laundry. And I will find new ways to procrastinate just so I don't have to clean. However, nothing gets me cringing quite as much as exercising. It's The Worst.

Are you gals digging what I'm laying down? Let's be real: exercise is awful. Unfortunately, you kind of have to do it once in a while.

What if I told you that there was a way to incorporate exercises and movements into your daily routine? That there were simple changes that you could implement that would make a huge impact? And, that there are exercises out there that are actually pretty fun?

Tip #1: Squats, Wall Sits and Lunges

When you brush your teeth, why not enjoy a nice lunge or squat? Waiting for your dinner to heat up? Do a 45 sec wall sit! Doing these exercises for a few minutes everyday may not seem like a lot, but it adds up and it helps keep your muscles in shape.

Tip #2: 30 Minutes = 300 Calories

So, yeah running is a total drag. But just 30 minutes of jogging or jumping jacks means you burn 300 calories which is nothing to sneeze at! Try a 30 minute jog a few times a week and you'll start seeing results.

Tip #3: Fun Fitness!

Fun fitness - not an oxymoron! Jumping rope, hula hooping and trampolines are great sources of cardio and they beat a gym membership in funness and in price.

Tip #4 Cleaning

I know what you are thinking, "ugh.... cleaning?! REALLY?"
120 minutes of chores = 300 calories burned. If you're going to have a sparkling toilet afterwards, it might be worth it.

Tip #5 Watch TV

When I watch TV, I try and squeeze in a few simple moves to strengthen my core area and muscles. I don't keep count or set a goal, I just go with it and when I tire out, I take a break. It's just laid back and I like that I can do it all laying down on a comfy mat.

Tip #6 Morning Stretches

Check out the full list of morning stretches here. They're a great way to start out the day and they make you feel limber!

How do you get motivated to exercise?

I totally do exercises while watching t.v. It definitely helps me stay focused and makes the time fly by because I'm occupying my mind on something than just the exercise.

Well. I'd certainly never "enjoy" a squat, lunge, or a wall sit, but do agree that they can be incorporated into small snippets of time throughout your day without major inconvenience.

One thing I like to do is the Office Chair Hover. Just make like you're sitting in your office chair but with your backside about 1-2 inches hovering over the seat and hold for as long as you can. If you're in the correct position, you should be almost about to fall into your seat with your toes wanting to lift off the floor. All the weight should be in your heels, your knees as close to 90 degrees as you can get, and your bum jutted back proudly (flare your back a little for help here). For extra stability, turn your feet slightly outward with your toes pointing in different directions. This is actually darn close to ideal squat form anyway, so if you've ever wondered if your squats are done correctly, that's how to do it.

Some women also like to sit on a stability ball instead of an office chair, but honestly I have never really found that to be enough of a challenge.
