GAP's New Logo Has Few Fans

GAP recently redesigned their logo:

Classic (left) vs New (right)

The reaction from the masses has been, well... some have called it a Universal Smackdown.

What's the saying again?  If it ain't broke...

While GAP HQ stands behind their design, they've offered a challenge to the naysayersIf you can do better, by all means, try.  They will soon release details on this "crowd-sourcing" project to accept redesign submissions from you.

Thicken your skin in the meantime, though.  The Crowd is itchin' for a fight.

What do you think of GAP's new logo?  Is the criticism deserved?

According to new reports, GAP has quickly reverted back to its classic logo:

Apparently, they will also not be pursuing the 'crowd-sourcing' project as planned.

Personal opinion? Just as well! Not worth the fight - it's just a logo for cryin' out loud.

It looks like a logo for a computer company, that doesn't say "fashionable" to me. But spinning negative criticism into a new marketing strategy was an excellent way to handle it! I still love Gap!

I think this is brilliant. It's definitely getting a lot of discussion around their brand and that's worth it whether people like the logo or not. Personally I don't think there is anything wrong with the new logo, though the old one is iconic.

LOL I saw an article about this yesterday!
Apparently it has its own twitter account (@gaplogo), and it's pretty hilarious! (obviously not started by someone affiliated with the company).

@gaplogo has tweeted stuff like "marketing team is huddled in a corner eating Ben & Jerry's and drinking scotch" and the "creative director just quit."

But I agree with the rest of the world: the GAP logo is already a classic and something that everyone recognizes in an instant. It'll be tough to impose it on people.
