Reliable mineral sunscreen for sensitive skin

I’ve been using Blue Lizard Mineral Sunscreen for a few weeks now, and overall, it’s a solid choice — especially for those with sensitive skin or who prefer mineral-based formulas.
Gentle on skin — no irritation, no stinging around the eyes.
• Water-resistant — stays on through sweat and swimming (great for active days).
• Clean ingredients — reef-safe and free from parabens, fragrances, or harsh chemicals.
Thicker texture — takes a bit more effort to rub in, especially compared to chemical sunscreens.
• Leaves a white cast at first (common with zinc oxide), though it fades somewhat with blending.
If you’re looking for a reliable mineral sunscreen that puts skin safety and environmental concerns first, this is a strong contender. I gave it 4 stars mainly because of the application feel, but the protection it offers is top-notch.

Would definitely repurchase — especially for beach trips or outdoor days!

Not bad

Not a bad sunscreen. It has very little scent, and has not irritated my sensitive skin. It absorbs into the skin quickly, and feels oily compared to watery like some sunscreens do. It adds a nice shimmery finish but also leaves a bit of a blueish white cast. Works really well on my daughter's skin.

Mineral sunscreen for the win!

Nice texture, application leaves a mineral cast at first that blends in. It is an unscented product, but its faint scent reminded me of Elmer’s glue. SPF 50, love that it has aloe vera in it and it’s coral reef safe! Lasts up to 80 minutes and protects from 98% of UVB rays, so that’s awesome :)

Good to use in water

The sunscreen is great to use when playing in water. It has broad spectrum spf 50 which is enough for where I stay. The only thing I don’t like is leaving a white cast on the skin

Great Sunscreen for sensitive skin

Loved this sunscreen because it was great for my sensitive skin and had good SPF content. I know it's a mineral based sunscreen so it's a bit harder to rub it in, but it does stay on when swimming which is important for my active lifestyle and swimming in the summer.

Gentle but effective sunscreen

I had the chance to review this sunscreen for free from Butterly and it definitely introduced me to another great brand. I like how this sunscreen is gentle on sensitive skin and goes on scent-free. It comes out as a nice creamy texture and rubs on with a slight white tinge. Once it's fully spread, it leaves the skin looking glowy. So far it hasn't caused any break outs and works well with the concealer that I use. I would recommend this as a staple in anyone's daytime skincare routine because sunscreen is a must!

Effective and Better for the Environment!

This sunscreen did not disappoint! The cream is not greasy and was effective at protecting me from the sun. Its a bit thicker than other sunscreens so you have to rub it in a little more. Kept me from getting burnt on my walks during lunch break. Very effective and reliable! The bonus is that its better for the environment and won't not harm our ecosystems. A win-win!

Safe from the sun!

This is my first time trying the blue lizard brand. Overall, I liked this product. Over the last 4 days we've been in a heat advisory and avoiding outdoor duties wasn't optional for me! This gave me nice coverage and lasted hours before reapplication was needed. There isn't much a smell, I would have loved a coconut base scent or something. It is slightly oily and if you have a darker skin tone, this will leave a slight white cast.

Good mineral sunscreen

I have used this sunscreen a couple of times. As is typical of mineral sunscreens it applies very white at first, and then you must rub it in quite a bit, but it does be coming clear if you work at it. I found that it did not leave my hands or body feeling greasy after application, which is very nice. The package is a nice size for reapplying on the go. its better then expected!

I tested this sunscreen on two separate sunny vacations, while my husband and others in our group used various other brands. On the first day, I applied it to just one leg to see how it held up—and sure enough, the protected leg had no burn and only minimal color. The unprotected leg, however… not so lucky. (Apparently, I overcommitted to the experiment—oops! Thankfully I was able to balance it out over the rest of the week.)

What really stood out was how little product I needed compared to my husband, who was using Banana Boat Sport. I used at least half the amount per application, and applied it about half as often. (If you can clearly see a white coat, you’re using way too much.) There’s a super sheer, almost invisible white film left when applied properly—but it was so faint that no one even noticed it until I pointed it out up close.

It also lasted way longer in both pools and saltwater. While everyone else was reapplying constantly, I just checked that sheer coat up close and saw it was still doing its job—and I didn’t burn.

By the end of the trip, even my reluctant teen ended up using this on their face, because the regular sunscreen just couldn’t handle constant face-wiping in the pool. This one performed much better. We still reapplied a few times a day, but not nearly as often as we did with other sunscreens.
