Effective mineral sunscreen for sensitive skin

This Blue Lizard SPF 50 Sensitive Mineral Sunscreen was gifted to me to use in exchange for my honest opinion - it’s an easy answer - I’m thoroughly impressed!

This will be our new go-to for the entire family — whether it’s for a fun beach day adventure, or just everyday outdoor sun protection.

The broad-spectrum UVA/UVB coverage is water resistant for up to 80 minutes, which makes it perfect for summer swims or sweaty outdoor days.

The best feature for me is that this was made with sensitive skin in mind — it’s hypoallergenic, has soothing organic aloe, and there are no parabens, phthalates, or fragrances to worry about.

The lotion goes on easily and absorbs nicely, and dries clear, with no chalky white cast or sticky feeling. Leaves my skin smooth and moisturized while being sun protected.

And bonus: it’s reef-friendly, with no Oxybenzone and no Octinoxate, so it’s safe for us and the ocean too

Gentle, Strong, and Sun-Smart

For me, Blue Lizard Mineral Sunscreen Sensitive SPF 50 was a great find, especially since I have reactive skin that doesn’t tolerate much. What I love most is that it doesn’t sting, itch, or burn — none of that. It does exactly what it’s supposed to do: protect, plain and simple. I also really like the UV-sensing cap that turns blue in the sun — it’s a fun and useful reminder to reapply. That said, the texture is a bit thick and it leaves a slight white cast, especially on my face, so I prefer using it for beach days or long walks rather than under makeup. Overall, it’s not the most glamorous, but in terms of protection and gentleness, it’s easily in my top three.

Great product!

I have received this product to try on behalf of Butterly. Sunscreen is a must in the hot sun in summertime. And I usually go for mineral based sunscreen as a healthier choice. This sunscreen applies on smooth and no greasy feel, also has a subtle moisturizing feel, which is nice to not dry out skin. I love how this Blue Lizard product is for sensitive skin! Cause skin can breakout or rash with foreign ingredients. I wait 15-20 minutes as well before going into the water as well, don't want it washing off so quickly of course! No overwhelming scent, which is a must as well! I highly recommend this product!

The best yet.

This sunscreen is amazing. I have kids who are very sensitive not only skin but with how things feel. It's hard finding a good sunscreen that I don't need to fight to put on because it "feels gross". This absorbed quickly and felt super smooth applying it. Also love that the cap changes colors as it helps with getting them to reapply it.

Good for Sensitive Skin, Needs Cleaner Ingredients

I really wanted to love this sunscreen. And in many ways, I do. It’s effective, gentle on sensitive skin, and doesn’t leave a heavy white cast like many mineral sunscreens. The texture is great, and it blends in well without irritation. However, I was disappointed to see ingredients like alumina and chlorphenesin included in the formula. These are flagged by many as potential carcinogens or allergens, and in 2025, I believe we should be holding skincare brands, especially those marketed as "sensitive" and "safe" to higher standards of clean, truly non-toxic ingredients. Everything else about this product is amazing, but I can't confidently use or recommend it while these ingredients remain. Clean, effective skincare is possible, and it's time more companies commit to that fully.

Perfect for summer

I’ve been using the Blue Lizard Mineral Sunscreen Sensitive SPF 50, and it’s honestly one of the best sunscreens I’ve tried for my sensitive skin. Fantastic!

I always have trouble finding a decent sunscreen that does what it promises, especially for my sensitive skin. Enter the Blue Lizard for sensitive skin.
