Sharp blades, but the handle is too square
Having a pair of kitchen shears is a no brainer: you can use to break down raw meat, quickly divy up cooked meat (think ribs) and quickly cut spices (green onions, dill, etc) directly into your cooking pot or pan. I typically use mine the most when breaking down whole chickens, so I was more than happy to test out Brander's Butcher Shears from our closest Barbecue Galore.
Although I had high hopes for these shears, I admittedly was left a bit disappointed. Although they felt super sturdy and robust, my hand was hurting after the third cut through some raw chicken. Because the handle was squared off instead of completely rounded, the edges easily bit into your hand. While this design choice made them harder to slide off your hand (important when youre dealing with slick raw meat) it quickly became really uncomfortable.
Having said that, they were super sharp and washed really well. If you have tough hands, these $15 butcher shears do the job just fine, but I personally would need something with smoother handles.
