Great pencil - Why a sharpener?

So, I bought the pencil that matched the lipstick (I am very happy with the lipstick) and the pencil had a part at the end that looked like all I had to do was screw it down to sharpen the pencil. (Like all the other pencils I own.) But I tried, and I tried, and although I turned the top of the pencil again and again, that didn't make the "lead" in the pencil come down. When I took it back to point of purchase and asked what was happening I found out: Oh, you have to buy a sharpener for $12.00! What? Oh! Lancôme gives me an auto sharpener on their pencils and LISE WATIER puts in what looks like a moveable piece on the top of the pencil (as if they work like Lancôme pencils) but you need to buy a sharpener?! OK. So LISE WATIER pencils are off my list...
