Cafes Reviews

A café requires just one thing to win our hearts: truly decadent coffee.  We've come across our fair share of snooty décor, name-dropping baristas, and lack of seating space, but all is forgiven when we're handed our immaculately brewed Americano or Soy Chai Latte - whichever's your preference.  The search for the next must-stop java joint is an urbanista's favourite pastime... and when we can find one that also serves a great lunch, well you had us at Bonjour!

In Toronto, we're partial to The Sandwich Box, Le Gourmand, and Sense Appeal Coffee Roasters.  Which is your favourite?

DAVIDsTea

I always find myself wandering back to DAVIDsTea from time to time. Their tea is really top notch, and the large variety of blends will wow you. Not to mention the quality of the blends, really suits everyone's tastebuds. I love how they also prepare drinks for you as well!...
The Fire Roasted Coffee Co.

This is a great local coffee shop based out of London Ontario with locations all over the city. They serve hand-roasted artisan coffee along with many other typical cafe beverages. Their coffee is delicious (from someone who adds nothing to coffee, so the taste is paramount!)...
Little Sister Coffee Maker

This adorable coffee shop is located in trendy Osborne Village right across from a Starbucks. It's one of the few places in Winnipeg that espresso aficionados can get their caffeine fix done right. I had an espresso macchiato today that rivaled any I've had in Toronto. I also...
Taste and See

1 review

Taste and See is the best place to eat in town, in my opinion. It is a beautiful and relaxing atmosphere, full of friendly people, and the food is awesome. The price is higher than fast food, but worth every penny. Whether you are looking to enjoy a health conscious meal or...

Loved the atmosphere... the service was impeccable (an authentic Southern Italian experience). Great for a lunch date with a girlfriend or an afternoon of people watching!
Wibke's Espresso Bar

1 review

Bloor West Village needed a cafe like this. Though there are Timothy's, Starbucks and other chains in the area, there are very few independent cafes that know how to pour a good espresso. This tiny cafe is located on Bloor at Jain and owned by a bubbly German named Wibke...
Cafe Olympico

This place has to be one of the best coffees in Montreal. They only serve esspressos and its derivates (lattes, cappucinos, machiatto). It is one of my top picks for coffee, period. I only take the espresso, and it comes with a rich 'crema', thick and golden, rich and...
Lazy Bug Bubble Tea Shop

1 review

I went to the Lazy Bug to get some bubble tea a few years ago. I had never had it, so I wanted to try it. I realized that tapioca is an acquired taste, but after the first time of not liking it, I had it again and liked it. It certainly grew on me. The second time I went, I...

Ok. So they named this tiny cafe at Jane and Annette after an outdoor toilet - don't be fooled! What awaits inside is fresh paninis pastas, coffees and pastries all in a cute quaint setting. The staff are super friendly and you will love the owner, William. I've been...

This is a great spot. Crazy/funky interior with candles on stands caked with old wax, art everywhere you look including the bathroom, and a surprisingly delightful brunch. I imagine this place would be quite fun at night all lit up with candles. I ordered the mushroom, goat...
Cito Espresso

Mmmm! Really great coffee here! I had a delicious Americano after renting a bike from the shop down the street. If you can make a good Americano, you can make anything. They're also winners of the Krup excellence award, which says something about the quality of the...
Java Blend Coffee Roasters

coffee that can be purchased on the shelf at the store or even specialty places like Starbucks has been there for a looong time, roasted months ago. The reason I don't buy this kind of coffee is because of a fungus that grows on coffee beans. This form of fungus creates...

Well worth the trip to Selkirk (30 mins from Winnipeg) to this renovated historic house! Sit on the sunny verandah and have a cup of tea with homemade dessert. A great old-fashioned place to take your grandma out for her birthday! 205 Eaton, Selkirk MB. 204.785.2664

Tim Hortons

I am not a big coffee drinker, but my husband is. He is from Canada and he told me that Tim Hortons (affectionately called Timmies by everyone) has the best coffee, better than the fancy coffee shops. I tried it for the first time when I was in Toronto and I loved it. It's...
Manic Coffee

I had heard about Manic Coffee many times but only tried it recently when scouting for our 4th Shop Crawl. Wow this stuff is good! The iced lattes are so creamy it's like chocolate milk. I don't know what kind of coffee they use but it is absolutely fantastic. They...
Vegan Danish Bakery

This is one of the best Vegan cafes around. The service is phenomenal and it's a great place to take non vegans as everything tastes so good and unfortunately many people think it's too good to be vegan. It's a great place for cupcakes, cakes, danishes. twists and coffee.
