Since its just down the street from the office, I've gone to Gourmand a few times since I started working at Chickadvisor.
Food: Mainly sandwiches salads fair but they do have pasta/entree specials too. I usually get either the prosciutto brie with pesto sandwich or the goat cheese salad. Both of which are delicious!
Drinks: Good latte, but I actually like coming here for the hot chocolate. Not sure why but it doesn't taste as choclatey when I order a larger size, so if you want to try it I recommend going for a small.
Baked goods: mmm its amazing here. Love their chocolate chip cookies (crisp but chewy on the inside)
Service: The people who work there are friendly but I find during lunch its a lot slower then one would want for an hour break. I don't expect a salad or sandwich to take that long to get made (Esp. since the sandwiches are premade)
Yes this cafe has wonderful pastries, well done coffees and the like, but what I really need to tell you about is their meatloaf. I love meatloaf. I have had a lot of meatloaf from many places and cooked by wonderful chefs including my mother. The meatloaf at Le Gourmand is THE BEST I have ever had. It's super moist, perfectly cooked and has the most amazing sweet, ketchupy sauce. They serve it on their special board everyday with mashed potatoes and a lovely wild greens salad for around $10. So worth it, you'll be stuffed!
I walk past this place every morning and I can smell the fresh baking through the door - mmmmmm!
I finally went in to grab some lunch a couple weeks ago and I enjoyed the most delicious grilled ham panini. I've also tasted one of these chocolate cookie balls. I would eat there everyday if there were no such thing as calories.
This little piece of heaven is located just off the corner of very busy Spadina and Queen St West! Outside may be buzzing and loud, but inside is a small, quaint, quiet piece of intellectual heaven! YOU MUST try the little dark chocolate 'Nookie cookie', and their signature huge chocolate chip cookie!!! Well worth every penny! I make constant stop overs at Le Gourmand on my way home from work! Highly recommend!!
This is a great place to have near work. I get my latte, dessert and lunch fix here : ) They have pretty good food and I can never resist their cookies, even though they're are just slightly smaller than my face. I actually had a craving back in the day so bad we drove to the yonge/eglinton st. just to get cookies. Most of the food I've had there is pretty good. Sometimes the line gets really long there and the place gets really hot... but I still line up so I guess that says something. I always grab dessert for myself and my office and they're always excited. Overall, definitely swing by and give it a try.
This place is a gem for all things pastry. From nookie cookies to chocolate bombes and lemon tarts, everything is delectable and most are made on site. There is also a good selection of caffeine offerings (Dean & Deluca) and "real" food offerings. There are three locations - the one on Spadina is cozy, the one at Yonge and Eg. is more chic and will be open late this summer - haven't been to the third one yet.
Best pain au chocolate in the city! (wait, maybe I shouldn't have said that because now people will snatch them up before I get there....)
Anyway, overal the food is pretty good. Sandwiches are usually awesome (especially when they butter the outside and stick it in the press so it comes out nice and crispy), sweets are good (try the giant cookies), some of the soups are good some aren't... as with the salads and entrees. I had a quiche there that was kind of gross, but I think that was one of the few/only things I've ever had that I disliked.
I believe they have the best quiche in town. Food is good. Not a great place during peak hours. One of the senior staff is very rude.
152 Spadina Avenue 416 504-4494 This is one of my favorite cafes simply because of the lattes and decadent chocolate chip cookies. The cafe sells sandwichs and other lunch items that are quite delicious. They also sell an assortment of imported cookies, spices and oils. Even though the cookies are several dollars each, they are so rich and delicious, you'll have a hard time finishing even one. It's a good place to come for a pick me up if I've had a bad day, or to use as a boardroom for meetings (so I can expense those delicious cookies ;) )
