Cafes Reviews

A café requires just one thing to win our hearts: truly decadent coffee.  We've come across our fair share of snooty décor, name-dropping baristas, and lack of seating space, but all is forgiven when we're handed our immaculately brewed Americano or Soy Chai Latte - whichever's your preference.  The search for the next must-stop java joint is an urbanista's favourite pastime... and when we can find one that also serves a great lunch, well you had us at Bonjour!

In Toronto, we're partial to The Sandwich Box, Le Gourmand, and Sense Appeal Coffee Roasters.  Which is your favourite?

Prana Coffe Bar #1

1 review

Not that I am necessarily anti- large corporation or anything (I stll love my Starbucks) but there is something to be said about a cozy neighbourhood coffee house. Prana coffee had such a relaxed atmosphere. There are books over the fireplace that can be read at any time, huge...

Casa Blanca Cafe is a locally owned cafe featuring original dishes by owner Jai West. Featuring savory tapas style items and rich desserts, this place has something for everyone! An extensive wine and beer list and relaxing atmosphere make Case Blanca a must for downtown dining.
Dark Horse Espresso - 215 Spadina Avenue

I had walked by this swanky hipster joint several times before one day entering its doors when I had time to kill. Although an emergency phone call prompted me to cut my visit short after barely taking a seat, the few sips I took of the decaf mocha had me ecstatic to return. As...
Panera Bread Bakery-Cafe

They opened a Panera close to me and I was excited to try it. The place looked great with great seating and a nice atmosphere but since I am coffee person I was quite disappointed as I felt that their gourmet coffee was horrible. Their baked goods are beautiful and taste great...
Delica Kitchen

1 review

I have fallen in love with another cafe. I don't mean to be unfaithful to my first loves Dark Horse, Le Gourmand and Balzacs (Distillery location), but Delica now holds the keys to my heart if for no other reason than their Whoopie Pie. Allow me to explain... Delica...
Bulldog Coffee

the staff here are rude and obnoxious, but the coffee and desserts are great- it is a trade off. I go back here every once and awhile thinking i could just ignore the staff but they are always telling someone off or griping about something very loudly. I gave up and am now...
Seattle's Best Coffee

Love it. We tried level 4 first. And it just wasn’t enough. We just tried level 5 and it’s perfect. We were looking for an alternative to our Sumatra. And this taste pretty darn close. Great bold flavor. Works great with cream and sugar. Will definitely buy again.
Pita Cafe

My favorite Lebanese/Mediterranean Restaurant. I love this cuisine and will eat at places that are closer to me but when I want something special I'm going here. I look for reasons to eat here.
Ezras Pound

1 review

Ezra's Pound says they are the greenest most environmentally responsible cafe in the city. The milk is organic from grass eating cows (are there other kinds?), the sugar is organic, fair traded and unrefined, the packaging is biodegradable or recyclable and they only...
White Squirel Coffee Shop

this place has soo much potential, great name close to park, interesting space, but it falls flat- the minimalist and boring decor over the 2 story space doe not provide anything that absorbs sound, any clanging of coffee machine, talking etc just bounces off the walls. the...
Balzacs Coffee Roastery - Liberty Village

1 review

Balzacs has been a favourite coffee chain of mine for a long time. The lattes are delicious and they always have a nice assortment of snacks. I also appreciate the punch card since I'm there so often. The Liberty Village location has a more modern decor than the old...
Caffe Artigiano - 763 Hornby Street

I love Cafe Artigiano...it is my favourite cafe in Vancouver to sit and relax and have hot chocolate...which is by far the BEST hot chocolate I have ever had in my life. The lattes are impressive as well and they do foam art that is a wonderful added touch. I am not sure how...
Mirage Bistro, Lounge & Cafe - 117 Eglinton Avenue East

My friends and I went to Mirage last weekend for a Christmas get together! We arrived around 12:30 in the afternoon and received great service from the get go! Our waitress was attentive and engaging! While I ordered breakfast some of the other girls ordered roast beef...
Subeez Cafe

This is a great spot. Crazy/funky interior with candles on stands caked with old wax, art everywhere you look including the bathroom, and a surprisingly delightful brunch. I imagine this place would be quite fun at night all lit up with candles. I ordered the mushroom, goat...
49th Parallel Coffee Roasters

I received this as a Christmas gift and finally had an opportunity to try it. It is a nice flavored coffee I really enjoyed it and I am looking forward to trying other brands of theirs.
Tim Hortons-Lockport, NY

As a Boston cream enthusiastic, I actually visited the location during the summer and was utterly disappointed with the rancid boston cream. Tim Hortons is certainly a low-class, poor quality coffee shop.
Essence Café – Whitby

I love the Essence Café in Whitby. It is an adorable little family run café with AMAZING food. I have gone for breakfast (try their breakfast crepe) lunch (all of the sandwiches are amazing and served with a generous portion of salad) and even to a couple of special events...
Cito Espresso

Mmmm! Really great coffee here! I had a delicious Americano after renting a bike from the shop down the street. If you can make a good Americano, you can make anything. They're also winners of the Krup excellence award, which says something about the quality of the...
Vancouver Art Gallery Cafe

This is my favourite cafe to go on Sundays. Whether you are in a mood for salads, paninis, soup or one of their fantastic cooked entrees (mushroom risotto and butternut squash ravioli have to be on top of my list), this is the place to be for your weekend brunch. They have a...
Starbucks

Love Starbucks cafés. Since I work from home I often relocate to coffee shops for a change of scenery. My local Starbucks is my go to. The atmosphere is perfect for hanging out. Love the music and the social atmosphere. The lattes are amazing though high in sugar.
