Joined LA Fitness for few months and went to their Markham and Vaughan locations.
Pro:
The equipments are new and don't need to wait.
Place is clean
Can check the schedule and information from their app
Group classes (yoga, Zumba, Aqua) are good
Have kids club
Con:
When any equipment is broken, need to wait for a long time to fix it (including sauna, spa, workout equipments)
Group classes always have lot of people
The Newmarket location and huge and has a great variety of machines and they also have a pool but the sales staff are liars and kicked me into a contract that supposly I can put on hold once I left for my honeymoon and later found out I couldn't and then when I reviewed the contract I noticed I didn't even sign it and they just put a scribble line where my signature should have been.
Also the place is not the cleanest. The carpets smell and the cleaning staff are more on their phones then cleaning.
The location in Newmarket, Ontario.
The location is huge and has a lot of variety and machines which I value.
But it's filthy. The cleaners are completely incompetent. Despite complaining to management, no changes are ever made or efforts to improve. They are obviously not monitoring the work. Even coming in first thing in the morning, there is garbage and filth all over.
Also, many of the personal trainers are themselves unfit. Not good role models. Also, noticing that some are not teaching proper form. It's scary. Others are training 6 people at a time and hogging many machines, weights, and space from the rest of the paying customers.
I have been a member of a couple of other gyms but I find LA Fitness to be the best value for the monthly fee. There isn't a contract so after you pay your initial membership fees you are on a month to month plan. The cost is much less than other gyms, but there aren't as many perks. There is no towel service or special amenities in the change rooms (like hair dryers etc). I'm personally ok paying less money and bringing my own supplies! I go to the Warden and Eglinton and Victoria Park and Danforth locations. The Warden/Eglinton location is quite spacious and all of the equipment is new. The Vic Park/Danforth location is brand new but much smaller. The only complaint is that neither location offers many classes in the morning. LA Fitness is probably a better gym if you have your own work out routines. Places like Goodlife or Curves offer more classes and programs for people who are new to working out.
