It's funny that everyone has commented on the smell because that was the first thing I noticed when I opened up the bottle. I'm not sure what it smells like exactly but it isn't great, nonetheless, the smell doesn't stick around once you put it on so it's ok.
In terms of volume I guess it gave my lashes a bit of a lift, but works just as well as the Rimmel mascara I use. This mascara feels much lighter on my eyelashes though, even though I have to use more of it to get the volume. I have very sensitive eyes and often get irritations from certain mascara's but after many uses I'm pleased to say that I haven't had irritation or an allergic reaction to this product which is fantastic.
I really like the shade of black that came; the best I've seen out of a Mascara. It's not too harsh so it doesn't stand out too boldly against brown hair, but still dark enough to make a statement - this is something that would have me purchase it when I run out.
The only thing I really didn't like about this was the size of the applicator. Maybe I have tiny eyes but I felt like I was going to poke my eye out using it. It's huge and I felt really awkward with it, I'm sure after using it a few more times it won't bother me.
Other than my last comment, compared to it's competitors - and even other Maybelline mascaras like "Great Lash Mascara"- this one would be one of my top choices and I would definitely purchase it.
I really liked this mascara. Lots of people said it smelt weird, but I kinda thought it smelt like a rose perfume :P Maybe I just have a weird sense of smell though lol. I did find this mascara very lengthening, which is what I look for in a mascara because I have very little eye lashes.. It made me look like I was wearing fake eyelashes! I loved it! It wasn't as 'volumizing' as I thought it would be though. It didnt really thicken my eyelashes, but made them really really long. I would buy it again. Hopefully all that packaging was just for the new release thought and they kinda tone it up because it was major excessive to have it in that plastic container.
This mascara does come in ridiculously large packaging... and the smell is rather odd (almost like they tried to add a perfume-like scent to it). I was rather excited about this mascara, as I am a fan of maybelline products. The application was alright, it coated my lashes well but I'm not sure about any sort of 'colossal volume,' and it did wash off easily at the end of the day. However, I did notice that at the end of my serving shift (even though I did not feel particularily warm) there was a bit of mascara under the bottom eyelashes...a definite no-no for me is looking like I have shed a tear after a good day at work. On noticing that I then tried the next day to only coat my top lashes, which worked much better. So buyers beware! If you put this mascara on your bottom lashes keep up with the makeup checks!
I like how this mascara lengthens my lashes, it dose thicken them a little but not a lot compared to other lashes. Compared to the maybeline orginial mascara in the pink and green bottle i like this one much more, but compared to the lashblast, the lashblast takes the cake!! I think the downfall in this mascara is the bristles, it would have been a lot better if it had the same type of bristles as the lashblast or define-a-lash, that way it would clump less.
i do agree with the other girls, the first thing u notice is an odd smell, it dosn't bother me too much but it is a little peculiar. to get the length and fullness u want u will have to put on a few coats. on the plus size it does create a natural full look but after the first coat it might clump a little. all and all not my favorite mascara but good for a natural look.
To be honest, this is not my favorite mascara. I also agree with the comment below..the smell is not pleasant! It's smells like a chemical and I found it to be rather overwhelming first thing in the morning. I have medium length lashes and this mascara does lengthen them, however I don't find that it adds any more thickness.
I also found it to be slightly messy when applying. It lengthen my lashes so much that the tops of them rubbed on my eyelid leaving black marks - my number one pet peeve when it comes to mascara.
On the plus side - the formula is nice. It didn't dry out my lashes or makes them brittle. It came off very easily when I washed my face.
Overall it depends what you're looking for. If you want length without intense thickness it would probably work for you. Not the best product for me though.
I thought the packaging was a little excessive, I threw out lot of wrapping.
At first I didn't like it, it took quite a while to apply my mascara. After a few coats it started to build and give me the fullness that I wanted. After all it did the trick
This mascara rocks. I am a big fan of Maybelline XXL mascara's and I had high hopes when I got this one.
It gave my lashes great volume with out flaking. My lashes have looked great all day without any flaking or rubbing off. The price of this mascara is great when you consider how effective it is, you could spend a lot more on a mascara that would do the same thing.
I will definetly purchase this mascara again!!
It seems like I couldn't go wrong with my mascara purchases lately. When I got chosen to review this as a part of the Product Review Club, I was excited to hopefully find another new love.
Before I get to the effectiveness of this mascara, I just have to say one thing. What's up with this mascara's smell? I've never had this problem with any mascara before -- it stinks! I thought I'd give it a shot though.
I think this is a good one-coat mascara. It does a really good job separating and defining each lash. It also lengthens in one fell swoop. But that's it. I added another coat and ended up with spider lashes. And that smell is giving me a mild headache! :(
In comparing mascaras, I most definitely prefer Covergirl Lashblast over Maybelline Colossal. I found that the formula of the Colossal Volum' Express weighed down my lashes, even though I curled immediately before applying. I don't experience this problem with my Lashblast.
To me the Colossal was just okay. The results it delivered were underwhelming compared to other mascaras I already own.
Will I buy this mascara? No. But if they come out with a waterproof version, it might potentially hold a curl better, so I might give it a try.
Yet another goodies from the Product Review Club. I was excited to receive this because I love mascara and I'm always looking for the perfect one - although I doubt anything could be better than the miracle that is Lancome Hypnose mascara.
I got this in Glam Black, which is the more dramatic of the black shades (I forget what the other shade is called). Here's the verdict:
Price: 5 out of 5 (because it was free. I think it retails for around $7 which is very reasonable)
Packaging (Brush Wand): 4 out of 5
Overall: 3.5 out of 5
What it claims: "Creates 9X the volume, instantly."
The truth: It’s good. I mean, it’s a really good mascara.
What I loved about it: The definition and length are definitely there. It is rich and black and even after several coasts it doesn't weigh down the lashes. Volume-wise it was acceptable - but I don't think it lives up to the 9x claim. Although the brush was huge, it was surprisingly un-messy and did a good job on the little tiny lashes at the inside corners of my eyes.
What I didn't like: The wand is pretty dry coming out of the tube. I felt like I couldn't get enough product. I really wanted to pump it but we all know that's a big no-no.
Overall: I’m impressed but I’m not doing cartwheels. It's a good mascara but there isn't anything so spectacular about it. the best thing about it is the price I think. It gives big results for the price point.
Would I recommend it: Definitley. One of the better drugstore mascaras I've tried.
Finally a Maybelline mascara that works for me! The packaging is sure to grab your attention. I would say this mascara is comparable to DiorShow. The result are instant, even after the first coat. I usually layer on the mascara, but I found with this one I was able to just do 2/3 coats and have the same result. Like the DiorShow, it comes with a big chunky brush so it may take some getting used to, to get the inner/outer corners.
My only complaint is that it's not waterproof. When and if they make a waterproof version, it will definiately have a permanent space in my makeup bag!
