My boyfriend's family and I were all wanting some good Chinese food last night, and I'd have to say that I think I've found my new favourite Chinese restaurant in Winnipeg.

I'm usually wary of trying out new Chinese restaurants, because when it comes to Asian food I am picky. My boyfriend's parents took us and his brother out for dinner and suggested Hung's, as they enjoyed it on their first visit. We decided that between the 5 of us, we would each pick one plate and split it between the five of us, which worked out great, everyone got their fill of food, plus we had a bit left over to take home. Our choices ended up being the Special Deluxe Fried Rice, Sweet & Sour Chicken Balls, Szechaun Chicken, Sweet & Sour Koo Lo Pork and Diced Shrimp Almond with Vegetables. We also ordered 6 egg rolls and got a free bowl of soup per person as appetizers.

I was very impressed with everything we ordered, as was the rest of the family. My boyfriend raved that the egg rolls were the best he's had since he lived in Nova Scotia (almost 5 years ago), the fried rice was delicious and not dry like most places. When going to Chinese restaurants, chicken balls are a must for me, though I find that at most places the chicken balls have far too much batter compared to chicken. These had the perfect ratio of chicken to batter and were fried just enough to give them a light crispy bite, not overly greasy. The Szechaun Chicken was another choice that I loved, while the menu listed it as being a spicy dish, I found that while it was not overly spicy, it had just the right amount of bite.

Another plus to this restaurant was our waiter. He was very friendly, quick to greet us at our table, and checked up on us just enough. He was also really good for making sure our order was correct, my boyfriend's father is highly allergic to scallops, and often has problems with restaurants that serve seafood. The waiter had no problem with making sure that anything used to cook our meal (especially the shrimp w/ vegetables) did not come in contact with any juice or bits of scallops (as scallops are another item on their menu). He also was very helpful in making suggestions from the menu, such as the Sweet & Sour Koo Lo Pork which we all enjoyed.

Of course we got the yummy fortune cookie at the end. :)

For the 5 of us the meal came to around $60, including drinks, working out to about $12 per person. It was definitely a $12 well worth spent and we can't wait to go back.
