Gasthaus Gutenberger - Winnipeg

If like authetic German food this is the place in Winnipeg. I have been going there since the beginning and it's outstanding. I highly recommend. Just bring your extra large belt you're going to need it.

2583 Portage Ave, Winnipeg, (204) 888-3133. I'm a german snob. I lived in southern Germany on and off over a 6 year period, so I know what authentic German food is supposed to be like. Gasthaus has flavorful food, a varied menu, and an accordian player.... who played Samba di Janiero when we were there.... what happened to Edelweiss? Anywho, the downsides were that (a) they were missing some key German foods, and (b) the decor is outdated (I'm being kind). They actually have carpeting in the dining room (??). Also, my husband was not impressed that the waiter didn't know how to pour a weissbier properly - this is a big deal to a German. Overall, though, a nice little place.
