I've always bought brand name curling irons because I thought they would give me the best curls. I have really thin hair and the curl never seems to stay. A coworker told me about this curling iron and I thought it would never work because it was so cheap. Turns out it's the best curls ever. After 5 years I still have it and still works amazing.

I always use Conair curling irons. I have been for years. I find, if you use them heavily like myself, they have a life span of about about a year and half - which is pretty good for the price I think. Conair curling irons are also really effective on my hair. I can curl my hair in about 10 minutes and it's not left frizzy, the curls turn out how they should.

I bought this on a whim from Walmart because I've been struggling with my mom's old 3/4" iron for years. I figured if it sucked Walmart has a good return policy.

I got it home and gave it a try. I was really impressed, it heated up to med-high in about a minute and held its heat during use. The spring clamp is strong and can crimp your hair is you aren't careful, when I put it through a trial run I didn't have any problems with crimping but I have thick hair which is harder to curl so certain ladies with fine hair might have to be more careful.

You can adjust the heat on this iron from 0-30, so the downside is that the actual temperature is unknown but being able to change the temperature is a plus. There is an on button and an off button with a little red LED that flashes as it heats up and stays on when it's to temp. The barrel is nice and smooth and the edges and joints of the clamp don't catch the hair at all.

Overall I was really impressed. I don't use a curling iron much so I wasn't willing to spend a lot of money. I also found that if you bump up the temperature you can use it like a curling wand by wrapping right over the clamp.
