Amma’s Malaysian Sambal is a cherished family recipe from founder Karthy’s mom, Siva- created to preserve her legacy and share the joy of gathering around good food. Born from their Toronto food pop-up Bungkus (Malay for “takeout”), this sambal became a customer favourite, and now it’s jarred for everyone to enjoy.
Made with fresh and dried chilies, garlic, and shallots, this vegan, gluten-free, and all-natural sambal delivers bold Southeast Asian flavour without preservatives or shrimp paste. It's versatile - use it to cook, marinade, dip, or spread - and stands apart from mass-market versions like sambal oelek with its rich taste and clean ingredients.
Made in Ontario. 8/10 heat. 10/10 flavour.

This Ammas Sambal Sauce is definitely a staple in my fridge now and I will be lost without it. Made in Ontario 🇨🇦 and packed with bold herbs and spices, this sambal sauce instantly brings back a lot of fond memories when I used to live in Penang 🇲🇾 many years ago.
I am very impressed with how flavourful and fragrant the sauce is. Not only that, it is also has thick consistency, unlike some other brands that are very runny.
In this reel, I am making ‘Eggplant and Shrimp Sambal’, adding only a few ingredients such as chopped onion & garlic, kaffir lime leaves, and sweet soy sauce (aka kecap manis).
So grab a bowl of rice and mari makan!

Love it
I was so happy to find a vegan and gluten free Sambal to fit my dietary needs. It’s the perfect amount of heat and goes well with everything. I made Sambal cauliflower and dip with it.
