I first learned about Diva Cups when I started working at my job 4 years ago. I thought they were the most disgusting things, and the whole concept grossed me out.

However, I went through a period of an extraordinarily long period (about a month and a half) and my body was very sensitive afterwards. Pads were leaving me with nothing but rashes (I tried various styles/brands) and tampons were uncomfortable because they dried me out (again, various brands/styles were tried). So I decided to try the Diva Cup.

First off, they’re not easy to use. The concept is easy, but it takes time and patience to be able to properly use it. You have to be comfortable with the fact that you are going to have to keep your fingers in place while you insert it, because you need to keep it rolled until it’s inside of you. At that point you need to let it expand and turn it so that it’s fully expanded. You may even need to run your fingers along side of it to ensure that it has fully opened, because you want to make sure you don’t leak out.

The suggested use for Diva Cup is no more than 12 hours, but it has no link to Toxic Shock Syndrome (TSS) so if it runs a bit later don’t freak out too much. Just don’t make it a habit. Just remember, the longer it is in, the more chances of overflow (especially if you’re bleeding heavy) and the farther it can migrate upwards.

Remember that the vagina is muscle, and as muscle will pull the diva cup farther up inside of you. This doesn’t really harm anything, it just makes it harder to get sometimes.

To remove, you need to pinch the end of it and pull it out of you slowly. You will want to ensure before you pull it out completely that you have a good grip on it, because you don’t want to spill blood every where. After you’ve emptied it, you would want to make sure you rinse it out or clean it (if possible). If you are in a place where you aren’t able to clean it at that time, make sure you wipe it out. A clean piece of toilet paper will help you out in a time of need. But you will want to make sure that you rinse it out or wash it at least once a day.

To wash it, you can use a gentle soap that is safe for all over your body. You can also purchase DivaWash which is specifically meant for it. Proper care will ensure your product will last longer.

Keep in mind there are two styles of Diva Cups, and it depends on age and life experience on which one you should be getting. Be sure to check out Diva Cup‘s website for more information on their products and which style would be best for you.

I remember one of my first thoughts about this product when I first read about it was “well wouldn’t feel the blood moving?” and the answer is no. You don’t feel anything. I find for the most part, as long as it’s inserted properly it feels more comfortable than tampons.

I've been wanting to try out this product for a while now since I have heard good things about it from my friends. I love the idea of this reusable cup and surprisingly it wasn't too uncomfortable to wear, just a little tricky to insert the first few times.

This is tricky to put in. Once I did get it in, it seems to be effective. I find for myself I can feel the nub at the bottom all the time and find it very irritating. So for now I just use it at night and it works great if you have it in properly then no leaks.
I also bought the wash and it has a really nice fresh scent.

I bought the DivaCup for environmental reasons - I like having something that is reusable instead of creating so much waste. But after a year and 4 months of trying to get this thing to work, I have finally given up and thrown it in the garbage. It is supposed to be leak proof, and when all the stars align and it magically finds its way to the right spot, it works okay. But 90% of the time it doesn't and is only half effective or not at all. I cannot use the DivaCup without having a pad backup, and I have a pretty light flow. You're supposed to rotate it to seal it in place, but I cannot get it to rotate even slightly. It has been a total waste of money, and they're not cheap! There are two sizes,: I bought the one that is supposed to be for women over 40, even though I have never had children; so I would consider buying the other one, but at 50 dollars and tax, I'm not sure I want to throw good money after bad.

I bought the wrong size by accident. It is still usable and fits fine. There is the occasional time it slides in a bit too far and it practically requires surgery to remove but overall I still like it better than tampons. I usually wear a washable pad in case of user error.

One of the best things I've ever bought. I paid around $50 for mine but that was close to 7 years ago now. I have saved so much money not having to buy pads and tampons and the Diva Cup works so well too!!
Will definitely be a lifetime user. This is wonderful.

I wanted something that would allow me to sleep comfortably without having to worry about leaks and the DivaCup was it. I don't know if its just me but I don't find it comfortable to wear during the day so I use tampons instead but at night, the DivaCup is my go to product. I've only experienced the occasional leak if its not inserted properly but other than that. I am able to sleep comfortably with it in. Inserting is a bit tricky and it takes me a couple of tries but I just do it while I'm in the shower that way I can easily insert and remove without having to worry about a mess.

This is a fantastic product! Not only is it sterile, unlike other types of sanitary product, it's a one time buy. Now let me tack a quick add on to that one time buy statement: unless it gets damaged, or you give birth. Obviously a damaged cup will need to be replaced, and after giving birth you basically upgrade the size of cup.

I've been eying this product up for a while now trying to figure out if it was worth all the hype I was hearing online. I was unsure on the mess factor and and how comfortable it would be. Let me take each of these points on separately.

The mess factor turned out to be non-existent. It was surprisingly easy to use and empty, and I didn't find it any more messy then a tampon oddly enough, There is a bit of a learning curve to the insertion bit, as if you don't get it properly seated it will leak a bit. I honestly didn't have much trouble with that. Also because you can leave it in for a longer period of time, in the upwards of 10 hours, I found that I didn't have to deal with it outside of my own home. Emptying and cleaning it once in the morning and once at night was sufficient.

As for the comfortable side of it, I found provided you insert it properly it was lovely. If you don't the stem has a bad habit of poking you in sensitive areas. This apparently is a non-issue after you get used to putting it in, as you just learn how far in and what angle work best with your body.
