My experience seems identical to another review on here. I also bought an online group coupon and was REALLY excited about finally getting my hair coloured professionally. I rarely, if ever, splurge on a good haircut, so the fact that I got this seemingly "great" deal was very exciting. The deal: $60 for $170 worth of salon services. AMAZING right?

I had planned to get caramel highlights and probably darker chocolate brown low lights as well (my natural colour is a medium brown). My stylist talked me out of the low lights as he reasoned that the dark brown would contrast too much with my natural colour. I explained that I actually really like how dark brown contrasts with my pale skin complexion, but, I'm not one to argue with the "professional" so I agreed. He then showed me a couple samples of lighter caramel brown colours and explained that he would first bleach the hair then go in after and "warm it up" to the "subtle caramel" colour (his words quoted directly).

Now, I don't know about you, but when I picture "subtle caramel" I DON'T picture a head of hair that looks like it started out dirty blonde and then someone added in a few medium brown low lights!!! When he took off the towel I was shocked, but it's also not very bright in the salon (at least by his station), so I thought to myself, well maybe it's just a shock because it's a new look, and I'll get used to it. Yea, not so much. It just got worse from there.

I had also planned a cut because that was covered in the price of the coupon, and asked for a trim and layers throughout. Let me just preface this by saying that I am used to going to TOP CUTS, paying $30 and getting more of a hair cut. He spent MAYBE 5mins on the cut. I am not sure if he even went all the way around my head with the trim, and as for the bangs, he seemed to just pick up random pieces of my hair willy nilly, and cut at various lengths. (Just for reference here, the cut would have normally cost me a minimum $60).

By the time he was done, he asked, "how to you like it? do you like the colour?" To which, all I could say was "well, it's a lot lighter than I expected." I was trying to be polite but still hint that I wasn't necessarily pleased, especially after one moment during the blow dry when he lifted a section of bang to reveal a glaringly bright golden lock of hair to which I exclaimed, "Wow! that piece is really blond!" and he only responded by placing it back down while mumbling something incoherently. I had also noticed some sections where the blond CLEARLY did not start at the root, like I was 12 years old and had tried doing the highlights myself at home for the first time. (i.e. something that should have cost $10 from Shoppers Drugmart and taken about 30mins, was accomplished in 2.5 hours at a place that normally charges a minimum $110...Just sayin').

The whole way home I just kept thinking, maybe it's not so bad, I just need to get home and style it myself and it'll be fine, I'll get used to it. NO SIREE BOB!!! Under my much brighter bathroom light it simply revealed the travesty in full force: The colour did not compliment my skin AT ALL, my dark brown eyebrows looked horrendous, my blue eyes were drained of colour, and as mentioned, the quality was sub par. After hesitantly revealing the results to a few trusted friends, I decided to call the salon and explain how unhappy I was with the service. They apologized and offered to have me come in to have it fixed at no charge. I was wary, but agreed to give them a second chance.

I was under the impression that they would book me with a DIFFERENT (read: BETTER) stylist, but I arrived for my second appointment to find the same stylist waiting for me, and no one else in the salon to save me even if I could politely request someone else. There are still sections of bleach blond streaks that start 1/4 inch away from my scalp, and I went home with a faint dark brown smudge on my forehead, but at least I don't have to become a hermit, too ashamed to show myself in public lest anyone see the atrocity otherwise known as the worst dye job in the history of the world.

I am now sitting here with my integrity mostly restored, and once again feeling like the brunette I was born to be, but I will still never go to Sugar 'N' Spice Studios ever again, nor will I recommend it to anyone I like. Enemies, maybe, but not my friends.

I had a terrible experience here. Bought the Dealfind coupon since I read great reviews. I'm sure Krista is great, as everyone raves about her, but make sure you get her to do your hair if you're there. The stylist I was paired with was very amateur. He didn't give me any advice despite my uncertainty, gave me full colour when I asked for subtle highlights (looked like highlights when he was doing them, but not when they were done), and coloured the sides unevenly, which i only noticed when i put my hair up at home. I ended up fixing it with a box of colour from shoppers. I guess that's what I should've expected from one of those coupons! Never again.
