I didn't particularly enjoy this book. The plot didn't interest me enough, even though it was a decent one overall, and I kept forgetting who was who. I also didn't like the formatting; as in, there were places were a quotation mark should end and then the characters thoughts would follow but it just flowed through so it was annoying to see past those errors (and there were many of them).

Perhaps I wasn't paying too much attention at the beginning, but it felt abrupt once we went to the main character's life outside of the case. It felt strange to move to such a serene feeling plot with a love interest; more so, it was jarring. I felt like the contrast was far too stark even though separately the gloomy sections and the pleasant ones were fine. I did enjoy the end, though. The way everything fell together was good and I liked how the last few paragraphs gave off a creepy feel while still feeling final in its own way.

This was a disappointing read, but at least it was narrated well for its time period, the characters were distinct enough (when I did remember which name corresponded to which character), the plot did have its intrigue even though I didn't care for it much, and it's finality was great.
