i have picked this book up several times, and have yet to finish it. the beginning is slow and boring, and frankly i couldn't be bothered
I didn't like this book. I picked it up twice and set it down twice unfinished. The first part of the book was very confusing and boring and I personally hate books like that. Maybe I'll read it one day but I have plenty of others I wanna read more first
The first time I read this book I found the first 50-60 pages kind of dragged but once I got into the meat of the story I was so happy I stuck it out. This is a wonderful novel with a story unlike any I have read before. Yann Martel does a great job of describing the beauty in a bad situation and I loved how the ending was kind of ambiguous.
I have reread this book a few times and it is just as good the second or third time. Definitely worth a read.
Oh ok I promise to keep this review short (haha you know who you are)... great book! Good movie. Watch the movie and then read the book I recommend it. Very entertaining and I think the author is a creative genius.
Where do I begin?!!
This book captivated me from the first page right up and until the very last page. In my opinion it is a well written book with excellent descriptions, wonderful range of emotions, humor, sadness and excellent character development.
There is not only the character development of the protagonist -Pi, but also the character development of Richard Parker which is beautiful and inspiring.
There are the mysterious locales which apparently do exist further than our everyday lives take us.
And there is the thought provoking question at the end of book. I dont want to spoil the ending but I believe once you reach the last pages and the question is posed from Pi to the author, it makes you think and want to re-read the story based on what Pi asks.
A Must Read.
This is one of my favorite books of all time. It comes with some great life lessons and I make sure to re-read it at least every couple of years
I found this book really boring. Except for some parts here and there I did not find it catchy. To start has an extremely long intro that could be reduce a lot and still say the same. I think the principal character is good and the story although hard to believe it is interesting, but the way it is written... too much description and unnecessary detail. If you want to know the story, just watch the movie and save yourself a lot of time!
Years ago a friend told me that I 'really have to read this book!', but I never did. That is, until my son read it in the eighth grade and couldn't stop talking about it. He typically won't touch anything that isn't science fiction, so I figured it must have been a great book to get him so excited. I read it, and he was right, it is a awesome read.
It makes you think, it makes you feel, and it makes you uncomfortable at times. But it's always entertaining and I feel just a little smarter somehow for having read it! Highly recommended.
I love reading that;s my favorite pass time..they;re is nothing like crawling in bed with a good book and a cup of coffee when you get home or on rainy days..I read mostly anything form fiction to documentaries
Fantastic read! I love this book so much. It's been several years since I read it, but I recently saw the movie adaptation and it brought back so many fond memories, I will definitely be re-reading this in the next little while! It's a breathtaking story about a boy trapped on a small lifeboat in the middle of the ocean with a tiger. I love the imagery and intensity of Martel's writing style, and the book will keep you interested the whole way through. I love the ambiguous ending to this...you get to decide if you believe the story or not, which to me, marks a phenomenal book.
