Nestlé NOIR Mousse Delicate Dark Chocolate Reviews
#532 in Chocolate

Description

Celebrating a back to basics approach to chocolate, Nestlé Noir is like slipping into a favourite little black dress, it is something familiar and simplistic that evokes a sense of pleasure. This enjoyment can be directly related to the carefully selected exotic cocoa beans featured in the tablets from two different geographical origins – Ghana and Ecuador. More information here.

I think I'm probably the only one who didn't like these mousse chocolates. *blush*

I received this through the Product Review Club. I was also selected to review the last Nestle Noir series and I LOVED those (especially the one with the cherry bits). I was very excited to try these mousse chocolates because they look delish and they sound delish. Not to mention I'm a huge dark chocolate fan, the darker the better. But I was very disappointed by these mousse chocolates.

    What I liked?

    - The packaging is unique. It gives the chocolates a look of elegance. If Nestle is trying to market these chocolates as a high end product and hope they are comparable to brands like Lindt, I think they did a good job.

    - Each piece of chocolate is pretty big in size...particularly great for someone who's looking for a sugar-overload.

    - The price is alright, considering the amount of chocolate you get. And it would've worth the money had I enjoyed the chocolates...but I didn't.

    - I definitely liked the dark chocolate mousse better than the milk chocolate. However, this preference could be a result of the simple fact that I adore dark chocolate and almost 95% of the time prefer dark over milk chocolates.

    What I didn't like?

    - It was WAY too sweet and too rich. A good dark chocolate should be bittersweet but these chocolate mousse was just sweet, period. I couldn't taste the bitterness because my tastebuds were so overwhelmed by the sugar. Like the milk chocolate, I made the mistake of popping the whole chocolate in my mouth (I'm an overzealous chocolate lover) and ended up having to wash the chocolate down with milk because it was too rich.

    - The mousse center was smooth, but it felt "spongy" on my tongue. The texture was weird and it felt artificial. It definitely didn't give me the "melting in the mouth" sensation.

    - Because I was so put off by the sweetness of the chocolate, it took me a whole week to bring myself to eat this again. I cut the chocolate in half this time and the half-bite size was better. But I still found the chocolate too sweet. I couldn't leave the chocolate taste in my mouth afterwards to savour the flavour (like I always do with good food) and I had to wash away the taste with tea.

Overall, this chocolate did not live up to my expectations. I wouldn't waste my money on these chocolate mousse because I know Nestle can make tastier dark chocolates than these. I'd rather spend my money on the non-mousse dark chocolates because those were so much more enjoyable.

I enjoyed these chocolates but I found them quite 'average' in taste. The mousse-centre was very , but for a mousse, I would've prefered it more "mousse-y"-- the inside texture of these chocolates were thicker than I expected. Overall, I found they lacked a rich, true chocolate flavour but for the price, they're a great snack to have around!

I received the Dark and Milk chocolate Nestle Noir Mousse for the Chick Advisor Review Club. I was excited to review the chocolate as I love chocolate. I chose to right a review for the dark chocolate as I prefer dark chocolate. The first impression that I had was this was not your normal chocolate. The mousse inside definitely adds a different dimension to the chocolate piece. It reminded me of eating a chocolate pastry. I tried a second piece and I figured out the mousse in side was like a silky marshmallow. It is almost like eating a bite size chocolate dufflet tart, but not as decadent. It left an after taste in my mouth, but it was not the bitterness of the chocolate as I am used to that. I like the chocolate, but I do not love it. I would recommend it to someone who likes chocolate and marshmallows together.

I received this along with the Milk version for the product reviews. I post the same thing, with slight variations in both product reviews.

The first thing I will talk about the packaging. I really like parts of the packaging. It's not covered in a wrapper like an Aero bar. I find that packaging can be annoying to wrap back up if I don't eat all of it. The lid doesn't come completely off like a regular box of chocolates but is hinged at one side so it opens like a door. Except the door is flipped 90 degrees (I hope that made sense). Although I initially found the packaging interesting it then became annoying. There is a little tag you have to unseal from the lid and then insert into the bottom of the box to close it. I was unsure what to do and had to think a little bit. Even so, I did that incorrectly on the first box but managed to close it on the second box. Personally I found it a little annoying to figure out and it took more effort that I think it should take to close a box of chocolates. I'm probably not going to use those tags and set a book on it to ensure that it stays closed and nothing gets in it.

Next is the taste. I think it's about an average taste. I've had better chocolate but I've also had worse. I prefer dark chocolate in general, therefore I prefer the dark chocolate over the milk chocolate. I liked the dark mousse and dark chocolate together. I think they compliment each other better than the milk and dark chocolate although that's just my personal preference. The mousse inside is nice - very soft.

For the price, I think it's decent. You get 10 pieces of chocolate and I don't think I could eat too many of the at once.

The main question that comes to mind is if I would buy it again? I would consider it but it's not my favourite chocolate. Unless I really wanted something with the mousse inside, for $3.99 I'd probably get something else. That's not to say it's bad, because it's not, I just personally prefer other chocolate over this one.
