I was looking for a cereal which would not be too sweet and too "dry" (e.g., you can't eat that without milk) and finally I found Special K Red Berries. That is so delicious. I even persuaded my husband to eat Special K cereal instead of popcorn when watching movies. The berries are tasty and the cereal is not that sweet as other brands I tried before.
Just the price is a little bit expensive though during sales that's ok.
I first brought this cereal home for my family mostly due to price (it was on sale) and value (there were some pretty awesome coupons imprinted on the inside of the box). My husband, who is the major cereal eater in our family was pretty skeptical at first but it quickly became his favorite! Regular price I think it's pretty average as far as cereals go, they all seem overly expensive these days, but my husband really liked the lightness of the flakes with the sweet fruit flavour added in!
I was in love with cereal for a while. It supposedly didn't have that many calories and it tastes amazing! But after doing some research, and well, actually reading the ingredients and nutritional values on the box I realized how deceiving the Special K line of products are.
A normal person would probably not eat just 3/4 of a cup of cereal, so I decided to fill up my bowl like I usually would, and measure how much I was actually eating. Surprisingly enough, it was definitely closer to almost 2 cups than 3/4. This would make my calorie intake to almost 400, total carbs to about 60g, and sugar to almost, if not more than 30g.This is just the cereal alone, not including how much you get from milk, whether it's 2%, skim or soy. Either way, you're basically getting a lot more than what you're paying for, and not in a good way. At the end of the meal, this would easily turn out to be almost a 600 calorie breakfast. Not how I wanna start my day!
Correct me if I'm wrong, but how many people actually measure their cereal intake in the mornings? If you're looking for a balanced breakfast, I would go for other things like oatmeal with fresh fruits or even eggs instead of these Special K products.
Forgot to mention that carbs and sugar will eventually turn to fat, so technically this cereal isn't really low fat either >
I eat this cereal almost every morning. The flakes are nice and light (i.e., not overly thick or dense), but stay crunchy in milk. The berries are 'real' (dehydrated) berries, and there are lots of them in the box. IT's not overly sweet, but sweet enough that you don't have to add any sugar. The price is comparable to other cereals, and the box is a good size. It's also not too bad for you (i.e., low sugar and calories per serving) - I often eat handfuls straight out of the box (in front of the TV at night) and have absolutely no guilt about it!
I have to say that this is my favourite cereal in the Special K line. I love the strawberries and always try to get extras into my bowl. The flakes are crunchy as well and don't go soggy even after milk has been poured in and it's been sitting around. I find that the box's suggested serving is enough to keep me going in the morning for at least 3 hours.
I love the strawberries! I am tempted to pick more of them out of the box every time I get a bowl. This cereal is just as good as your average special k but with freeze dried strawberries. It tastes great and you can get a jumbo box for a great price.
I'm sure these strawberries have been infused with some kind of drug because I always go back for more! Delicious and healthy!
This is my all time favorite cereal! its nutrition and delicious! Although at some stores this particular kind of special K is very expensive for some reason. Still I recommend it!
This is one of my favourite cereals. Special K Red Berries is good for you and the the dried strawberries make it sweet enough to be addictive and have me coming back for more! I ablsolutely LOVE this cereal!
Red Berries is my favorite Special K blend (although Cinnamon Pecan runs a very close second!). My children love it too, and paw through the bag searching for the dried strawberries. In fact, that's the only thing I'd change - more strawberries.
Delicious and low fat. 'Nuff said.
