Ok so I have used both the blue and pink dye from this and a few things.
1) it is MESSY , its messier than any dye I have used and I have been dying my hair for 20 years
2) it is permamnt and long lasting. I left it on my hair for 3 hours and it stayed 6 months with the blue thats great as I love blue pink not so much lol
3) it runs bad even a bit of sweat will have it running badly this does not seem to stop even after months
that said I will use it when my manic panic shade is not available.
I have tried most of the shades of this hair dye and by far my favourite one is Luscious Raspberry. It's inexpensive and works just as well as the higher priced brands. Very happy with my results each time.
I absolutely love this product. It comes in many different colors. It also comes with the hair bleach so you dont have to buy it seperate. Though it may not last as long as I would of hoped it is very easy to use as long as you read the directions. And once it fades you can do it again or choose another color to make your hair. I chose the red color. I didnt bleach my hair too light just to a light red color which made it last even longer. For the lighter colors you will have to bleach your hair lighter but it is well worth it if you want to have these different colors. Will buy this product again. And dont worry moms you dont have to bleach your childs hair if there hair is already light enough you can just put the color in and its temporary so it will wash out after a couple of washes.
okay, so, Im cheap and dont like this product for the price.
BUT if I found it on sale (only ever really dye my hair red) in the red, Id definitely buy it.
It works fine, didnt fade too fast for a vibrant colour, and although I know it says for best results dye your hair lighter or bleached and then dye, I just went for it with my dark hair and it turned out exactly how I wanted, a deeper red :) so I didnt mind that at all.
Wasnt amazing spectacular, but wasnt a mad experience either.
Splat is great!! lasts a long time. Super easy to use and the color is vibrant. I tried using Manic Panic before and Splat works sooooo much better!!
I've used the pink, blue, and purple from this brand. The thing I like about this brand compared to other semi permanent brands is that the colors actually last in my hair, and I don't have to redo them every week. The pink lasted the longest, and was REALLY bright. The blue lasted well, and came out extremely dark in the beginning and then faded down to the color on the box. The purple I would never buy again because it came out more of a pinkish magenta color, nothing like the color on the box. Each color has lasted over 2 months.
I've used the Raspberry Splat hair color twice. The color on the box looked pretty red and since I loved red, I decided to try it. Well it said for best results, bleach hair to extremely light then put the red color in your hair. I did that and left each on for the amount of time stated to have the boldest and longest lasting color I could get from it. Well, my hair did not go the red color the box was showing me. It went very pink!
That was a while back so then the other day I see it on the store shelves once again and the red on the box is really what I wanted so I thought if I didn't leave the bleach in for so long, maybe the red color would come about that I really wanted. Anyway, all it did was make my hair a slightly darker florescent pink. I don't think I will be able to buy their colors anymore because I am worried that what is on the box is not what my hair color will turn out as. I just lost trust in that particular brand of hair dye.
I first saw Splat at both the Rexall and Shoppers where I live. What attracted me at first was the price, about 15$ for both the color and bleach. I was really curious about it and read some reviews online
Before Christmas I saw a friend who said she loved it, Manic Panic didn't work in her hair, and she said there was enough color. Her hair is longer and thicker than mine. My sister-in-law wanted me to put streaks in her hair and I used the Splat kit for her. As a thank you she bought me one in Blue Envy. She is so super sweet. So I did not have to pay for it myself, which was nice. Here's what I thought.
I had some roots going on and had to tackle them first, so it was nice that bleach was included. I found it a little thinner than I'm used to, it was easier to work with by putting it in a dish and using a tinting brush to apply as opposed to the nozzle bottle. I thought the bleach was pretty stellar, it brought my very dark brown hair (with red undertones) to a pale yellow. I don't think any bleach has gotten it so light before, so I was off to a good start.
You can dye your hair right away, but I decided to do it the next day. Wash your the bleach out really well or the dye won't work.
As I said I went with Blue Envy, a bright slightly dark shade, similar to Manic Panics Shocking Blue. Other than my roots, the rest of my hair was faded blue. I was a bit worried because you only get 3 ounces of color ( Manic Panic is 4 Ounces and I usually need almost a full one). Also it came in a little bottle, which I did not like. I found it was difficult to really get all the dye out. Again I put it in a dish and used a tinting brush to apply. It covered my hair but I feel I could have used more for my ends.
This stuff is pretty concentrated so be very careful not to get it anywhere!! It says to leave it in 15 minutes for a few weeks of color or 30 minutes for up to 6 months. I'm used to leaving my dye in for 8 hours so I thought it was a small number. I went on there Facebook page and asked for some advice. I decided on about 3 hours and then rinsed. It says to rinse until clear, but I never really do because I feel I'm washing it all out. I thought the color was great, a really nice bright-ish blue without any green undertones to it ( my problem with my usual brand).
Here's where I started liking it less. My hair felt dry afterwards and kind of grimy. It's like my hair had some kind of grossness over it. If I put my hands on my hair my hands got blue grime on them. Thank god I have black pillowcases! I'm sure they would be ruined had they been white. I also woke up with some blue on my neck and face, it does wash off but it still sucks. I figured it would be better when I finally washed my hair for the first time. It bled a ton, I did have a lot on my scalp, but this was ridiculous and I still had that gross feeling going on.
I also thought it faded a little too much, except maybe the roots. I recently washed it again and it still bled a lot! Usually it bleeds while I wash it, and maybe a very light blue will fall while I shower. This time it just kept bleeding dark blue color, I felt like I was washing myself with smurfs. The grossy feeling was gone but again, it faded quite a bit. The fading in 2 washes with Splat is about the equivalent of about 5 washes with Manic Panic, if not more(For me anyway). Once again the fading with my roots weren't so bad.
Overall I was disappointed with how it turned out. I think it may have been more successful if my hair would have been completely bleached first, and not just dyed over my Manic Panic. Maybe that had something to do with it, maybe not. I don't like how quickly it faded ( I wash in cold water with a sulfate free shampoo) and it dried out my hair. I would definitely buy the bleach again though, if they sold it separately, I thought it worked really well on dark hair.
I think it really depends on your hair. If you're new to dying and plan on bleaching it out, you might want to try this, you probably would have better results. But I can't recommend it very much because of my own experience with it.They do not test there product on animals.
