I was really excited to try this product for a couple reasons: I love Body Shop products, and I love shea butter! I often use pure shea butter on my hair and skin, so I wanted to see how a more "manufactured" shea body butter would work.
I was pleasantly surprised!
The smell is delicious (to me anyways), and I really liked the consistency of the butter. In the winter, my skin gets extremely dry, so the richness of the shea body butter was perfect. I can even use a small amount mixed with some aloe vera gel on my face as a moisturizer. It made my skin feel VERY soft and smooth, and left me with a nice sheen. Rough areas like my knees, elbows, and heels are baby soft after using this right out of the shower. My skin seemed to drink it up, and I find that the moisture lasts all day.
The packaging and look of the product were great - very clean and "natural", without a lot of muss and fuss to it. I would hopefully purchase it again as long as it was in my budget - but I think during the winter months, I'd be pretty inclined to purchase it because it works so well.
All in all, I'm very satisfied with the Shea Body Butter, and I've already been recommending it to family and friends.
I Enjoyed this body butter. I normally use lotions and creams so i was a little surprised at how greasy it felt when i put it on. however it really made my legs soft and moisturized. This is a lotion that i feel would work great at night so it has time to seep in before you go out. then you wake up with soft , silky legs
I really enjoyed receiving this product. It comes in a nice packaging much different than the typical jar or bottle. Instead it comes in a cardboard circle. I felt this is worth mentioning b/c packaging has a major effect on whether consumers buy the product. This one is definitely eye catching. With that being said, the actual product is great. It smells great and really moisturizes your skin. The consistency of the product is just right, not watered down yet not too thick. It does not have that oily feel in your skin either. It leaves you feeling refreshed and clean. Great for the winter when your skin is dry. Shea butter really helps.
I looove all of the Body Shop's Body Butters, but Shea is the first one I ever tried.
My skin gets very dry all year round so I love how rich the body butter is. Love the scent. I do find that it takes a bit of rubbing for the product to absorb into my skin, so usually I'll put it on my legs right after my shower and just let it sit for a bit. I stopped using this on my arms as I find it too rich, but its great for the dry skin on my legs.
My only real complaint with the Body Butter is the price. $20 seems a bit steep. I usually only buy body butter when the Body Shop has some sort of promotion going or I ask for some as a gift.
I love body butter from The Body Shop mainly because it always works! For me it seems to take a while to sink in so it's best to use right after a shower or before bed. You only need to use a little bit to get nice, soft skin so a big container lasts a long time! I liked the smell of this one, I have yet to find a body butter scent that I don't like. It's pretty pricey to buy but you get what you pay for. I recommend it to everyone who likes a scented lotion that works.
I like this product a lot, it makes my skin feel soft, and it does a nice job of hydrating my skin. I carry around this body butter every time I step outside.Where I live, the climate is very cold, my hands start to get very dry and this product stops it. I don't really mind the smell, it's okay. I prefer more fruity or floral smells. But I like the fact that the scent is not very strong compared to other body butters. I might consider buying this product in the future.

THE REAL SCOOP
Body Shop body butters have long been one of my indulgences to combat dry winter air. With a thick creamy consistency that blends well and so many lovely scents to choose from it is no wonder there are celebrities like JLo and Victoria Beckham that swear by it.
That said, the price point is a bit steep for the product and I can see it being a deterrence. The product lasts a long time though, and if the full sized tub is simply too much, you can try out a bunch of mini body butters for only $8 apiece. Those are great for throwing in the handbag and moisturizing on the go.
I find the consistency doesn't really sink in quickly, it more or less stays on the surface (although it shouldn't be mistaken for greasy like Glysomed). For that reason, i tend to use the body butter mainly before going to bed or if I'm having a comfy day mucking about the house so that it doesn't stick to my "going out clothes". It is luxurious and lovely when applied after a bath!
The ingredients for this particular "flavour" are great for dry, dehydrated skin: shea butter helps moisturize and soften the skin, cocoa butter melts at body temperature and leaves skin feeling very silky. With both of these keynote ingredients being purchased via a fair trade agreement, it provides a rural community of women with regular work and income, enables the development of community projects (e.g. schools and village wells) and provides small-scale farmers with income to support their families.
I always keep a tub by my computer, so that I can lavish my hands with moisture. The subtle scent for shea body butter is not overwhelming or cloyingly sweet, which is a major plus. If you are in the market for different scents, have a look at the offerings that Body Shop has - there is bounid to be a scent that is right for you (from citrusy to musky to a shimmery holiday edition cranberry).
Bottom line, it is pricey but the tub lasts! I love how Body Shop is helping to improve living conditions of those who are less fortunate and will willingly pay a slight premium to support that corporate philosophy. I have and will continue to re-purchase this product.
I love this product. It has a very light smell that alows you to wear it to work without offending anyone. It feels wonderful, dries quickly and leaves my skin incredibly soft - even those rough heels!! Also the shea butter comes from a community in Africa - a wonderfully feel good product!!!
I also spoke with a clerk and The Body Shop is moving towards having all their products preservative free - so no more parabens!!
I received the Body shops Shea butter via the product review club as well (THANK YOU CHICKADVISOR!!)
Here are the things I like about the product:
- It absorbs very quickly into the skin, eventhough it is a thicker butter.
- It does not leave your skin greasy or oily after
- The scent is nice and fresh (reminds me of a men's aftershave lol)-- although I've purchased numerous shea butters before, and this one doesn't seem to smell like shea at all to me, but nonetheless, the scent is really nice
- I like that you don't have to use too much of it to get the full effects (therefore it will last a long time)
The things I don't like:
- I think at around 20$ retail, it is a little pricey
- If you look at the ingredients, it has added colour (which I don't think is really necessary, and if you're super into organics and health, it might be a bigger issue)
Overall, I would very much recommend this product for those with dry skin, or even for pregnant women for a super moisturizer. Ohh and also for dry heels and elbows! It is definitely a higher quality product.
I recieved this product as the part of the product review team and just in time too because winter has just arrived for us canadians D:
Well anyways The product came in its cute little sphere box and and of course, once you open it up and take off the lid you can smell that amazing shea butter smell.
The lotion was very smooth to the touch and went on easy and made my skin definitely soft and it really helped with the dry skin problem too. since it is winter there was really dry skin to be dealt with and this product helped a lot and unfortunatly im almost done my whole pot of it ):
I would definitely reccomend this product to everyone ~
