At 32$CAD per pencil, I was expecting a little more bang for my buck.

I purchased the NARS Velvet Lip Gloss Pencil in Happy Days and Baroque. My first impression was one of disappointment, but I persisted with both shades, hoping they would grow on me. Unfortunately, I was not won over.

Admittedly, both shades I chose were fairly pink in color, but I was expecting a lot more pigmentation, even for a gloss. On my pale lips, neither showed up as much as I would like; offering about as much color payoff as a tinted lip balm.

Color aside, if I had been happy with any other aspect of the product, I would have considered purchasing again, but I wasn't. The texture of the product was slightly gritty, and it had a mildly off-putting scent.

Furthermore, NARS pencils come in a strange size - Not thin enough for a standard sharpener, but not quite wide enough for a chubby lippie sharpener either.

Personally, I would go in a different direction if I were searching for a high end lip gloss, these just aren't for me.

Better than a chapstick and suitable for everyday, unlike a lip gloss, the lip laquer balm is the one to try if you are looking for something new to wear on your lips. I think it would work in all seasons as the balm is shelf stable and uniform in color and texture.

NARS Velvet Gloss Lip pencil is the best lip pencil I have ever used! Its super smooth, and glides on your lips like butter. Its really easy to control while applying on your lips and gives your lips a perfect shape. I have 2 colors which I bought from Sephora on my anniversary, last year, and have simple fallen in love with them. I always carry them in my purse!

These truly are worth every penny. I was expecting it to be like balms that come in sticks from the drugstore, but it's not, it's 9000000x more awesome and gorgeous on the lips! I've already ordered two more shades.

I love these lip pencils! They are easy to use, they go one clean, they do not bleed and they are not drying. My only beef they don't have much staying power however they're small enough to carry around for touch ups.

New Lover, is for sure my new love!

I got this as a sample and was amazed with the colour. I always wanted to try NARS products. I hear great things about them and the price is a little higher than I'd like to pay to "try" stuff, I'd be more open if I wasn't 4 hours from the closest store!

The colour is amazing on me, a nice hint of pink/red with a lot of shine. This doesn't dry out my lips, and is great everyday or for a basic lip colour. Coverage is good, but it's almost a little tacky, it's a different formula and texture than any other lip pencil I've used. Not meaning it in a bad way, but it did take me by surprise. Now because it was a sample the packaging is annoying as you need a sharpener and it's an odd shape and like I mentioned about the formula, it makes a mess on the sharpner. I know other reviews of the full product doesn't have that issue

I have this in the color 'Baroque' which is a mauve color with shine. It has some shimmer in it. This obviously provides more shine rather than the matte version. It does give you a lipgloss look but more opaque. I guess you can say it's translucent and not transparent like a lipgloss. It depends on how you want to layer it also. You can use this pencil on a more daily basis whereas the matte pencil is more dramatic.

This color is actually more red.
