I received this product free from Butterly for testing and review purposes. I made this Butterball Applewood Smoked Turkey Bacon for breakfast this morning and I really enjoyed it. The turkey bacon is
Gluten free and is 85% lower in fat than regular bacon. It's a great alternayive to regular pork bacon and will be a staple in our household from now on.

Great bacon alternative

I'm a bacon lover as much as the next person, but will it stack up to real bacon. I was not sure if I would like this at all. I was pleasantly surprised. while I still prefer real bacon, this turkey bacon is pretty darn good. I would use this bacon as a crumble on a salad or when I had a late night bacon craving. but if you can't have regular bacon this is a great alternative!

Turkey Bacon is my Jam!

I am gluten free and I don't eat beef or pork so finding a product like Butterball turkey bacon is amazing. Unlike other brands this bacon is very meaty, it cooks up nicely and tastes delicious with the right amount of smoke. It is great for bacon and tomato sandwiches, a side for eggs and toast and a great salad topper when chopped and browned in the pan. I found it cooked up nicely remaining tender and crispy on the edges and the texture is very similar to the pork bacon my husband enjoys! I will definitely continue to Butterball Applewood smoked bacon over the competitor.

Shrinks a lot when cooked

I found the Butterball Applewood Smoked Turkey Bacon to be packaged well. There is a lot of liquid inside the packaging which I believe to be included in to the displayed weight of the product. The package is not resealable. The bacon slices are thin but wide and long when raw. When cooked I found the bacon to shrink almost 25% from its original size. The flavor I found to be very mid and could barely taste a smokey apple wood flavor. The only plus about this bacon in my opinion is that it has sliced meat in it rather than pulverized meat, evident by the meat threads in the bacon. Overall, I still prefer the original flavor.

Healthy Alternative!!

If you're counting calories and cutting back on fat content then turkey bacon is a really great alternative and source of healthy protein! The flavour is slightly more mild than traditional bacon, however it crisps up nicely and tastes great! It's not super thick but still has a great texture in between chewy and crunchy. The clean up is sooo much better than regular bacon as there is no greasy mess !! Definitely recommend for breakfasts, salads, etc.

Not bacon, more ham

I'm always on the lookout for breakfast alternatives to the traditional offering. The Butterball Applewood Smoked Turkey Bacon is comprised of 100% turkey and is a lower far alternative to regular bacon. However, I find the term bacon misleading as this product tastes more like a ham than bacon. It's true that it is lower far but it doesn't do anything to mimic the fat flavour that is missing. One of the biggest shortfall is as the product cools it becomes very leathery to eat and the texture is unappealing. I may be expecting too much but I rather eat traditional bacon or eat something else entirely without trying to substitute.
